There's quite a bit of things to do either in or near Fairbanks. Visit UAF (University of Alaska Fairbanks) there is so much to offer there that I don't have room to list it all. Take a hunting trip, fish for king salmon, take a riverboat ride down the Chena to the Tanana River and visit an athebascan villiage. In winter try snowboarding or skiing at Birch Hill. Play a round of golf. Visit the 'northern most' Harley Shop. Stop by Alaskaland for a look into the past. Go hiking and after you've finished working all your muscles you can relax in the natural outdoor hot spring of Chena Hot Springs just 60 miles out from town at the end of Chena Hot Springs Rd. Visit the Ice Museum or the Alaskan Bowl Company or a number of other points of interest to help make your visit to Fairbanks as memorable as possible.
Alaskaland is a small theme park that focuses on the gold rush history of Fairbanks as well as displays of Native Indian culture. Historical cabins and buildings have been relocated from around Fairbanks and placed in Alaskaland. These buildings are now mainly occupied by Gift Shop owners selling their merchandise and the history of each building is recorded on plaques displayed on the outsides of the buildings. Don't expect a thrill ride theme park, just go in with the idea to learn something about the 'Golden Heart City' and you won't be disappointed.
Gold Panning is a favorite around here. You can pay a per person admission fee and tour and even pan at many of the historical gold dredges. Or you can pan for free at many different areas along several different river beds. Just make sure you visit one of the prospecting shops in town, I recommend Alaskan Prospectors @ 504 College Rd. or The Prospector off of South Cushman Rd., and get advice on which streams you can and CAN NOT pan in. We don't want you getting shot just because you forgot to ask. Everyone should prospect at least once in their life. It makes you feel like a kid on Christmas morning. The anticipation of finding your very own gold can be quite exciting.

Golf the Northernmost Golf Course in America
You can golf all night long, and it's the best time and place anywhere in Alaska to see moose browsing in the wetlands. They come out late, after 10 p.m., and stay until morning, mostly in June or July. Must be something in those ponds that is irresistable! One night I saw 7 moose at one time.

In my opinion, the only must see activity in Fairbanks other than eating at the Chena Pump House is seeing the University of Alaska museum.
The museum features cultural and natural history displays from all the state's regions. The five galleries explore Alaska's history, Native culture, art, natural phenomena, wildlife, birds, geology and prehistoric past. There is a special section on the Northern Lights.

A historical trip down the Cheny river. Take a boat excursion to see what life was like in Fairbanks way back in the day. There are old fishing traps and farms still in use today along the way. I took a boat called Discover III, and had a great time.

This is an annual event in mid/late March. The teams do three sprints over the course of three days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) so plenty of chances to stop by and observe!

The University of Alaska Museum of the North is well worth a visit. Plus, the location provides nice views of the Alaska Range on a clear day.
