Our helicopter ride to land on the glacier in Girdwood was scheduled at 330 PM (my sister chose that time because she said the skies would be very clear). She was right, I must say... So, we had time to spare and wanted to eat before the ride. Hopefully, I wouldn't puke out the food if I get nauseous but though I was scared, I am not a queasy person --- so I was going to EAT! We did not see any fastfood joint that was familiar to us in Girdwood --- just a small grocery and beside it this very small restaurant. We entered it and I saw a guy eating a great looking sandwich and so we said, "Table for Two?" I plugged in my netbook so I can upload my pictures and also browse the internet using my broadband. Then my sister got her jambalaya soup which was awesome, and I on the other hand had the BIG KAHUNA which is a humongous burger - it was good and believe it or not, I finished it! hehehe.... If you go to Girdwood, you will be told not to miss the Double Musky! It has been reviewed in many culinary media. It has a fun atmosphere, and is always crowded, but they do not take reservations, so plan accordingly. The prices are very high, but so is the amount of food, and I guarantee, even the biggest appetites will need a doggy bag (Did I mention that Girdwood is dog friendly, haha).
I am not a big steak eater, but was advised to try the pepper steak ($29.00). It was huge!! The complete menu and recipes are available on the web site. Later the locals confessed that they just order the appetisers, so if you like "tapas", this is an excellent choice for your party. The Chair 5 (named for a ski lift) is a friendly place where proprieters Spike and Suzanne will make you most welcome. Even though they serve alcohol, they are serious about a family atmosphere, and there is no cursing!! There are a few house rules: 1.Smoking is permitted on the bar side only. 9 out of 10 people that tried camels prefer women. 2.Use the small fork for the salad. 3.Absolutely no gunfights, fistfights, foodfights, or cursing! 4.Although we charge for food and drink, advise is free. 5.The pool table is off limits to those under 21 after 5pm. 6.Children under 10 may not play pool. 7.Groups of 8 or more will have a 15% gratuity added to the bill. 8.Grouchy people are subject to a $10 charge just because we have to put up with them. 9.Dog Owners must leave their pets in their vehicles or at home, we only sell chicken and beef.
I have the Chair 5 House Pizza $15. They also have a live webcam, so you can plan your time and VTers can see you live from Girdwood Alaska. Leave a Comment

Carol always dreamed of having an Ice Cream Stand, and after opening their B&B, Carol got her dream. Everyone loves ice cream, especially Alaskans! Good for Dessert, Good Anytime. Lots of flavors to choose from.
Ice Cream on a waffle cone. This trip I tried the fireweed, a real Alaskan treat. I use fireweed syrup on my flapjacks. Pretty and delicious. Be sure to check out the historical photos of Girdwood in the Ice Cream Shop. Have eaten here many times over the years - always a great meal. Great steaks but many other choices on the menu. They don't take reservations so you may have a long wait if you get there after 6:30 PM or so. Just went there last night (11/1/05) and found they are closed until Dec 3rd. Ah well. Over to Chair 5 for a pizza and then the drive back to Anchorage.
Any of their steaks are peerless. Leave a Comment Theme: SteakhousePrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Crow Creek Hwy.Phone: (907) 783-2822

Seven Glaciers Restaurant is located halfway up Mt. Alyeska, accessable by aerial tram from the Alyeska Prince Hotel. During the summer, it is open only to catered events but during ski season it is open each night for dinner. The view is fantastic - looking down at the whole valley out as far as Turnagain Arm. I found the food just so-so, especially considering the prices and the cost of the tram ticket. Wine list is very limited. My hunch is that they bring the food up from the hotel and reheat - just a guess. So, if you're looking for a great view - worth it. Just keep your expectations low on the food and you'll be fine. If you're looking for a good meal - try one of the hotel restaurants or the Double Musky down the hill. I didn't eat at JJ's, but include it if you are in the mood for Chinese Food, or you just can't stomach the prices at the Double Musky.
They were offering a lunch combination. I do enjoy Chinese food, it offers a healthier alternative to the abundance of red meat in most American diets. I didn't get to sample the fare at Jack Sprat's, they were closed when I went by. But I did manage to get a menu, which offers an eclectic blend of foods. It is a catchy name and slogan.

I am not a member of the coffee culture, mostly drinking brewed coffee, and an occational espresso in a friend's home, and I don't know what a latte is or any of those other fancy terms, but the coffee culture is prevelant in Alaska, and there are a number of these coffee shacks everywhere you travel. I liked the sign.
I drink brewed coffee. Leave a Comment
