If you are hiking on the mountain, you may find some unexploded shells. These shells are used for Avalanche control. DO NOT APPROACH. Mark the spot and tell one of the staff approximately where it is so that they can safely remove the shell from the mountain.

Girdwood is a dog friendly place, and they take every opportunity to mark their turf, so you will see lots of yellow snow.

DO NOT EAT THE YELLOW SNOW!!!

The yellow snow is one of the things that I liked least about my visit to Girdwood.

Someplace better not to
visit

Sliding down a mountain at high speeds on a plank of polished wood or even two could result in injury if one is not careful or if something breaks. I hope that you never have a chance to visit, but it is good to know that Girdwood does have a clinic for family practice or for urgent care.

It is better to know where care is available and not need it, than need it and not know.

The top of the mountain gets 782 inches of snow! They try to get some snow off the roof so it won't collapse! It is interesting to see people in mountaineering gear for snow shovelling, but you wouldn't want to fall.
