    Fogcutter Bar: Fogcutter Bar

by jamiesno Written May 31, 2004

    Fogcutter Bar

The Fogcutter is a nice local pub with some specialty beers on tap, big screen televisions, pool tables and overall a recommended stop.

However if you are a dire hard Canadian hockey fan, I have to put this disclaimer on this recommendation. During game three of the Stanley Cup finals when Calgary won game three, 3-0 a group of us had to leave the place because management felt the juke box music was more important!!!!

This was a major shock and after repeated debate over being aloud to have volume a group of fellow Canadians and I had to split to watch the game down the road at the Lighthouse Restaurant and Bar where they were much more accomodating!!

The Pioneer Bar: Dinner and Drinks with the Pioneer Crowd

The Pioneer Bar in the morning

This is a nice local bar in the same building as the Bamboo Room. The back wall is plastered with bumper stickers that provide great enetertainment in themselves. Themes like "My wife said that if I didn't stop fishing so much, she is going to leave... and I will miss her.", "Move Willow to the capitol. " and hundreds more some of which are a little to dicey to mention in this forum. Much of town seems to show up for televised ball games at either here or the Fogcutter. The locals were friendly. Give them a few drinks and they will tell you what is on their minds. If you want good pub grub with your drinks, the Pioneer Bar would be my first choice. Try the locally brewed beers. I actually preffered them the Alaskan Brewing Company beers out of Juneau.

Dress Code: Anything goes! Jeans and a t-shirt are de riguer.

Fogcutter Bar: From the Ferry to the Fogcutter

by Colewade Updated Sep 26, 2003

This is very nice local pub on Main Street that seems to cater equally to locals and to tourist. The two groups seem to blend nicely here. The bartender was fast and personable. I noticed a uniquely Alaskan pattern here. The crowd tends to build until about on hour before the ferry arrives and then builds again about one hour after the ferry departs. Fun crowd. The core group of locals are always in attendance watching the ball game or "shooting the breeze" at the bar. They also served very reasonably priced "light" food. Any smart bar owner knows that you have to feed them something if you want to keep them drinking. Very nice logo t-shirts and fleece vest were also for sale.

Dress Code: Anything goes but almost evreyone dressed casual
