Favorite thing: Just looking at these trees makes me feel cold sitting here infront of the computer loading this stuff up.....but as we hiked through the area I didn't even think about being cold!! haha But I did think the trees looked quite interesting all frozen like that.
Red Cloud River is a scenic spot for making photos, Fishing, or just listening to the water gurlge....but that is in summer time. In the winter there is as stillness in the air and I could only hear a muffled gurgling sound under the ice as the river flowed under the blanket of white....
Fondest memory: Mike ....You may not even recognize the photo...you may have to dig out your summertime shot and compare. Check out MrClay's Kodiak and Alaska pages!! They are wonderful!!! While you're at it give Kaloz's pages a peek too! He has some great off the beaten path pages!!
Favorite thing: This is a fun way to go down the hill real fast!! But those crashes at the bottom can be a bit rough! Duke won't stay in the sled. He gets scared after 10 feet and jumps out....I think he just loves to chase us down the hill.
Favorite thing: Duke was having fun chasing us in the sled and chasing snowballs that we were throwing too. He was smiling pretty much the whole time from when we left the house until we came back home. The only times he wouldn't smile was when we stopped the fun to make photos!! hahaha
Favorite thing: As most of my friends here on VT know......it seems like sunrise is my favorite time of day. Well in the winter time you don't have to get up so early as the sunrise is around 10 am. So we leave around 9:15 am from our house as it takes about 25 minutes to get there in winter (driving safe) on snow and icy roads. Here you can see some of the pink in the early morning sky behind Pyramind Mountain.
Favorite thing: Quite often.....most every time we drive out to the Anton Larsen Bay we will spot at least one fox along the road. Sometimes they hang around to see what's going on but most of the time they run into the undergrowth.
Favorite thing: All along the road getting out to Anton Larsen Bay and on most hikes that you take in the area you will spot Sitka Black Tailed Deer. Seems like if the hunting season isn't open they don't run away! But during hunting season they sure seem to know that they can be blasted. Seeing them in groups of 1 - 6 is about average.
Favorite thing: I love the views behind the antenna field found at the the United Coast Guard Communications Center. I just wish those antennas weren't in the view.
Favorite thing: Even though I have so many photos of the area already I always want to stop and take more. This day was such a beautiful day for it.
