    Steam is rising

    Rising Steam

As we were coming back from our hike and we came around the corner where we could see the whole inner part of Anton Larsen Bay I could see what I thought was blowing snow at the head of the bay.....There was a slight breeze in the air but nothing that was going to kick up that much snow! We were driving slowly looking for VT photo Ops!! hahaha so it took us about 8 minutes to finally reach the head of the bay and as we did we could see that it wasn't blowing snow but a combination of the sun and warm water flowing into the bay and the ice on the bay and the very cold temperatures of -6 F -22C created this cool steam!! You will have to enlarge the photo to get the full effect and even then it was better to be there in person!! hahah You can see Pyramid Mountain in the background. The road passes about half-way between the peak and the right side of the photo.

    Sitka Black Tailed Deer

In the middle of the photo you can see a Sitka Black Tailed Deer. I stopped to take a photo and all it did was lift it's head to look at us one time then went right back to eating some grass that was sticking out of the snow under the trees. You'll have to enlarge the photo to see the deer very well.

    Snow boarding Heaven

Enlarge this photo to check out the fresh snow boarding tracks in the snow. You can get a feel for what they locals have to do to get a good run down the hill. I you look very close at the top of the photo you will see a lone track where a guy has climbed very high to get a great run! If you have tons of extra money in your pocket you could hire a helicopter!!

    No free rides

    Climbing up the hill

If you come here for snowy activities you will have to do all the climbing up the hill yourself.....There aren't any ski lifts! There is a Rope Tow but I've never seen it turned on. So if you want to ski down the hill you must climb the hill first and carry all of your equipment with you. It surely makes you appreciate the ride down knowing that you had to work so hard to get up there.

    Snow in the trees

I just love the way the snow builds up on the spruce trees after a snow storm and gives the forest a whole different look. Winter Wonder Land!!!

    left over squirell food

You can see here were the squirrels have eaten the stored away Spruce Cones and other goodies they eat all winter. We could hear the squirrels but could barely see them way up in trees!
