You may have to enlarge the photo you can see them in the trees in the upper right hand corner. They are scouting the river for late run silver salmon and small animals that may come down near the river for a drink!!
As you near the pass in the early morning in Winter you can look back and watch the sun rise just behind the mountain. If you enlarge the photo you will see lot's of Wild Rabbit tracks in the foreground. We saw tons of Rabbit tracks today (January 18, 2004) but not a single rabbit. We did spot 8 Sitka Black Tailed Deer though.
I love driving back in this area in winter on one of those days when it's quite cold and there isn't a cloud in the sky. The mountains are covered in fresh white snow and the the roads have that squeaky, crunchy sound under the tires. I have to remember to pay attention if I'm driving because I'm always looking at the beauty around me. Be very careful especially going into the turns because many of them are blind curves where you cannot see the other car until you meet in the curve!! Then it will be too late if you're driving too fast!
I love days after a fresh snow when it's very cold and everything is frozen in time....usually on mornings like this everything is very quiet and all you can hear are the birds flying around.
