Summer Mining Camps on the Beach.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: When we departed Anchorage for Nome in mid-August temperatures were in the 70's with sunny skies. We arrived in Nome with rain, wind and a high in the low 40's. I'm glad I brought my jacket. Summer weather in Nome may be very pleasant at times, but not always. In spring, winter or fall be prepared for Arctic conditions.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Any you might need, although sundries are readily available in Nome.

Photo Equipment: All you got.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Many miners camp in tents on the Nome beaches during summer, but if you plan to do so be prepared in case of cold, wet weather.

Sensible shoes that can get dirty!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Even when the weather is mild it is very windy, so a coat is always a must. Plus bring sturdy shoes. You walk everywhere, and if it's not snowing, it is dusty and/or muddy. I didn't see a blade of grass anywhere in the town proper. It just gets too cold in the winter for grass to survive. And the wind blows the gritty dusty dirt right in your face. Every day is a bad hair day once you step outside! In the winter, be prepared for extreme wind chill. We were there in September and were in gloves and hats!

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Nome is well equipped with stores that supply everything you will need in these areas.

Photo Equipment: The tundra is beautiful in the spring, so bring a camera to capture the beauty of the flowers. And if the Northern Lights decide to put in a show, you might want a camera capable of capturing their beauty!

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Depending on the time of year you are there you can pan for gold, pick blue berries, hunt, fish, etc. but you have to look out for the bears, and the mosquitoes. I would make sure you had a guide take you out of city limits if you are interested in these activities and they will make sure you are properly equipped. It is dangerous countryside.

Miscellaneous: Sunglasses to keep the blowing dirt out of your eyes! This is not a place to go if you want to be a glamour queen! It is definately for the outdoorsy, down to earth type of person. But once you peel off all those outer layers, you can still have a fashionable outfit on underneath to wow the nightlife crowd!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you go in late April, you should bring proper shoes. There is still snow and the main streets are very wet from the melting snow.

Miscellaneous: You may want to bring more supplies with you than you might on a trip to a major city because of the high costs of buying things locally.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: In summer, a raincoat, windbreaker and sweater, sturdy boots or shoes. In winter, everything must be very warm, head to foot.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Most common items are easily available in Nome.
