If you've never experienced an Orthodox service, you will be blown away at the emotional impact of the voices raised to God. Othodox churches are filled with treasures of artwork dedicated to God.

kaloz Says: People come here for the hunting and fishing. There is a lodge in oldtown, and there was one being built near the airstrip. We flew in and out the same day, so I didn't get prices for the lodges, sorry.

Old Harbor is only a 25 minute flight from Kodiak, and the views from a small plane are fantastic. Island Air services this community, but be warned that the airstrip is not paved.

The proprieter makes many of the crafts on display, from seal fur pillows to cedar paddles.
What to pay: This stuff is pricey, but it is genuine.

Favorite thing: The postmaster of Old Harbor has been on extended leave and they're not sure if she's coming back.

Old Harbor is a village of just over 200 people. I was very surprised that it is quite spread out, having three sections; OldTown, UpTown, & Hollywood. It is a dramatic setting in the sheltered waters...
