Cape Chiniak has some great rugged natural beauty!! I can enjoy looking at it in any weather. I guess a nice sunny day is the best but if you are prepared for the elements a day like this is fun as well. To get here you must drive all the way to the end of the Chiniak Highway then get out and hike the rest of the way. The area is called Cape Chiniak. As you can see it's a very dangerous area for the local fishing fleet!!
You can find this scene at Fossil Beach on Narrow Cape. You will have to drive all the way to the end of the road and walk down over the small cliff. There are great views and during the right season you can spot whales here. There are fossils to be found embedded in rocks and the cliff side so you'll have a blast!!
You can see the city of Kodiak in the background. It's about 5 miles by road from this spot but it can offer a bit of relaxation of walking along the river spotting families of Ducks, Seals and Sea Lions swimming just off shore.
If you get the chance to visit in the months of June to August you will enjoy the Very Lush Green of the island. You can see why Kodiak has the nickname "Emerald Isle"
You can find scenes like this along the Chiniak Highway. They are good spots to look for beaver. None were spotted on this day. But I've had them walk right across the road in front of me.
Here is a shot overlooking Womens Bay from Salonie Creek. It's a great area for fishing or going for hikes in the salt marsh at low tide....Wear your boots!! hahaha
This guy was standing in the bend of the Buskin River waiting for the salmon to come in with the tide and his dogs seemed just as interested as he was........
