Spruce Cape

Here in Kodiak we sure can have some strange weather. As you can see in the foreground the sun is shining at my back but the fog is making a nuisance of itself for the Mariners!! This type of weather is very dangerous for the small boats that ply the waters of Kodiak Island. It's not uncommon for a boat to run aground near Spruce Cape in this kind of weather.

Kodiak Horses

There are quite a few horses that are roaming semi-free in the Kalsin Bay - Narrow Cape area. There are fences but they must know how to walk around the fence as quite often they will be in the road. I loved the way they were hiding in the fog. The photo is taken right across from Lake Rose Tead.

There are lot's of hiking trails similar to this one. If you want to hike in the summer in Kodiak and are a casual hiker you will want one of these trails as the undergrowth of Kodiak will pull you down if you try making your own trail!!

Fort Abercrombie

This shot is taken at the end of Lake Gertrude in Fort Abercrombie State Recreation Site. Quite often there will be beautiful views of the ocean from this spot but on this day there was thick fog that was lingering just off shore.

Middle Bay

Here is a shot that you may remember from my homepage as I used it up there for a month or so. It's taken in the early morning hours over looking the head of Middle Bay. As usual I love using the fog in some of my photos.

Lake Rose Tead

This is taken from the approach side of the lake. From this spot you can also watch the resident King Fishers that sit on the electric lines and fence posts and dive into the water and catch the small salmon fry.

Bear Bread

Bear Bread is some sort of Fungus that grows on trees and stumps all over Kodiak. They make great props of photos. I just happened to notice this one just after a rain and I liked the way the water was beading up on the surface.

This is taken at Salt Creek. it's a great spot to shoot early morning photos as the bay can be calm in the mornings and give great reflections.

What kind of animal is this? Wolf? Bear? Moose? Squirrel? hahaha No! It's Duke my dog doing the super shake off after an evening of swimming at Lake Gertrude.

Kalsin Bay

This is a early morning shot of the Kalsin Bay with the Olds River in View as well as the Marin Range. This is a great spot for camping or just spending time with family and friends.
