Destination Alaska Coupon Book

by aznaphrodite

I love collecting souvenirs and below are some of my favorite places/items I got during my cruise. Any prices listed below were valid with coupons from the Destination Alaska 2010 coupon book, which is free at the pier for most Alaska cruises, or you can buy it from their web site for $5.If you decide to collect the free coins or free charm bracelet from the book, send a man to fetch the free items at each store to save time. When I went to get a free item, they insisted that they had to show me some pieces of jewelry before they could hand over the free item. When I sent my husband in alone, they never asked him to look at anything and just gave it to him. They probably think they have a chance of selling jewelry to a woman but not a man by himself. Northern Exposures: *** ALERT ***

by ConsumerAdvocate

*** ALERT *** Do not buy from the following store! As a consumer advocate I must make you aware of a store in Alaska that charges extremely high prices. An item was purchased for $150.00. The price paid was to include a 15% discount, because it was considered a floor sample. After further research this same item could be purchased new for $53.99. Within 2 days I noticed that the eyepiece also had a minor defect. Within 5 days of purchase the owner was contacted in hopes of resolving the two concerns. The owner Ken Hausinger gave multiple excuses for charging high prices. He claims that it cost more for shipping to Alaska. He claims that paying $10 per sq. ft. rate and being open only 5 months per year justifies his high prices. He also said “As for a refund or credit to your credit card, that will not happen.” As for the defect with the product, he recommended sending it to...

Raven Eagle Gifts: Gift Shop

by junecorlett

It is not your typical gift shop. It is also part of a museum and gallery. You can get Alaskan Jade, red and yellow cedar, argillit, beading authentic Tlingit artwork and learn about the indigenous way of life that has existed for hundreds of years.

Grocery Stores: Stuff to take home!

by jemcat

The local grocery stores in AK have lots of gifts to take back home and are inexpensive compared to the gifts shops around major attractions. Moose stuff! It's everywhere! Share it with everybody.Fireweed jams, jellies and soap! It all depends on where you shop. Personally, I overspend but sweatshirts and anything that is made of whale bone is expensive.

The Jade Factory: Everything jade!

by Mugsy13

The Jade Factory offers a wide variety of styles of jade jewelry, figurines, etc. You can actually watch the saw cutting a huge chunk of jade. There are also carvings by local artisians that are on display but are not for sale. Besides jade, there is jewelry made of other precious and semi-precious stones, gold nugget jewelry. etc. Be sure to look at all the jade (of course!) items available here. Prices range from very reasonable ($$) to very expensive ($$$$), depending on your taste and budget. I saw jade earrings starting at $15. I also saw gold-veined quartz jewelry priced in the thousands.

The prospector is simply a great shop and maybe the only one in Valdez with a with selection and reliable prices. A solid performer, the store is the retail leader in Valdez and is a destination for both residents and visitors alike. The Prospector provides quality clothing and gear for visitors who wish to enjoy the changeable Alaskan weather. Bear Paw gift shop: Gift shop in Valdez

by Matyas

The gift shop belongs to the RV Park itself. I have no special recommendations or ideas what could be so special in this shop. It's general gift shop with a wide selection (the shop is bigger than it seems from outside). I got everything that i wanted to and the lady was also very kind and helpful. She noticed I was the first Hungarian in her shop hahaa!:)

Gift shop: Gift shop with a view

by Matyas

What makes it so special? The view hehe! I generally avoid gift shops and crowded places like that but actually it was just a small wooden house. There's nothing special inside beside postcards, small gifts and snack but the view from this place was just spectacular! Located on the Glenn highway. If you are visiting the Matanuska Glacier you cannot miss this small cute shop:) Local Crafts.

Northway, Alaska: It could be the perfect souvenir

by PA2AKgirl

We came across this when we went out to Whitehorse, Yukon. It’s an entire town for sale right off the Alaska Highway. If we had a ton of extra money, we’d buy it and give it to the residents or help make their lives easier. Whatever they want to do with it, they should get the final word. It’s their land. But the question raised with this purchase is: what do you do when you buy a town? I am not sure how that works but you do hear of it every now and again. Northway is located between Tok and the Canadian border but the lady we spoke with while getting coffee told us they never get supplies and always run out of things. A great deal comes with this purchase as you can see from the sign. The asking price? Not bad considering many houses cost more than this here in the US: $680,000. Read the sign...see what's included $680,000
