Souvenirs

by Laura_Mexico

Without having a special shop or even a particular town where you should buy specific items, I would recommend a few things to shop for in Alaska: SALMON (fresh or canned -- smoked is my favorite!), plush animals (they are lovely and unique because they represent the Alaskan wildlife: seals, whales, huskies, moose, puffin birds), local crafts made of wood or furs, and the local t-shirts or sweat shirts... I bought some very nice ones with Alaskan landscapes printed on them! You can find all this in any of the ports of call where the ships stop. I found the nicest ones in Ketchikan and Juneau.

Native Arts and Crafts

by Scandic

Alaska Native Art is very beautiful and that spectacular state really has things to be memorized. Many visitors want to buy genuine Alaskan Native Arts when visiting on State and it has become bigger business lately. That has also brought some unfair business around. *Genuine* crafts has been made in China or Hong Kong and real Native Artist has been left without anything, not paid for their precious work. That is why I ask you to take a moment before you buy Native Arts to make sure it really is genuine That way you make a favor to yourself and the Artist.Get written proof of any claims the seller makes for the authenticity of the art or craft item you're purchasingAsk if your item comes with a certification tag. Not all authentic Alaskan Native arts and crafts items carry a tag. Those that do may display a Silver Hand symbol. This label features a silver hand and the words, "Authentic...

It has been so long since I visited this place I can't remember what I bought or how much I spent... probably just a couple of postcards. It sold all the usual gift shop items - toys, postcards, t-shirts, that kind of thing. average - to a bit more.

Gift shop in Anchorage Depot: An invaluable resource

by kaloz

If you want souveniers of the Alaska Railroad, buy them at the Anchorage Depot. The other depots do not have gift shops! The "Ride Guide" is a must!! It is $5 well spent, as it will make your ride so much more enjoyable. Filled with great information, detailed maps, and historic photos, you will thank me for this tip. $5

by Lilasel

So many interesting and wonderful gifts you can buy in Alaska. There are things I've got: Alaskan Herbal Lip Balm, the Natural Symphony of Alaska (audio with relaxation music and sounds of Alaska wildlife), aromatic candles, photo frames, leather address books and purses, souvenirs from jade (Alaska state dark green gem - you can see walrus from jade at my picture), wooden souvenirs.

Alaska has no general sales tax. The price is the price. There is a tourist tax on hotels and such, but general shopping is tax free. Everything
