    Soldotna's Homestead Museum

    Soldotna Homestead Museum

Favorite thing: There are different buildnings that include the main building , The Slikok Valley school that still has the original desks and oil lamps that students used back in the 30's and 40's. There is a Cook Inlet Dory that was built in the mid 1950's by a local boat builder and it tells how the local spruce trees are selected. As far as I could tell there isn't any charge to visit the museum and wander the grounds. If you have an interest in Alaskan History it's a neat place to spend an hour or so. There is a small hike to take as well. It's in a beautiful setting in the trees.

    Alaskan Merry go round

Favorite thing: You can find the Soldotna Visitor Information Center just after the bridge on the right. There is lot's of information for anything in the area that you might want to do. Such as Fishing, Sightseeing, Hiking, Hunting, Rafting, Flyout fishing trips etc.....
Right behind the visitor center there is a fishwalk with access to the Kenai River. You can watch fisherman land salmon right there or even try your own luck. The Visitor Center is open from 9 A.M. - 7 P.M. daily in the summer and the other months there is a shorter time but it's still open year round.

Fondest memory: You can contact the visitor center at :
    Greater Soldotna Chamber of Commerce
    44790 Sterling Highway
    Soldotna, Alaska 99669
    Phone - 907-262-1337
    Fax - 907-262-3566
    email - info@soldotnachamber.com
    website - www.SoldotnaChamber.com

The photo isn't taken at the Visitor Center, it's taken at Hanson's Custom Carvings.

    Light Pole Decorations

Favorite thing: The town of Soldotna is quite pleasant. Although the main part of town on the Sterling Highway is very busy but the side streets are quiet and very homey. The city has installed wildlife flags from many of the light poles. There are many parks and Green areas that are away from the main drag through town.

    Shower place

Favorite thing: If you're camping and are in need of showers there is a place on the Sterling Highway about 2 miles out of town past the Fred Meyer Shopping Center. It is a bit cheaper than the Wash N Dry in town. It is very clean. I didn't use it on this trip but I did use it 2 years ago. I think it was about $3 per shower.
