    Fred Meyer has just about everything you'll need if you're in the Soldotna area. Food, Fishing supplies, ice , Clothing and Snacks!! Everything is reasonably priced too. It was located within walking distance of the Church we stayed in so the kids loved to go there and wander around and spend their money!! hahaha I don't know how many squirt guns they bought.

    You can watch the artists Tom and Linda carve designs into Ram Horn, Moose Horn, Walrus Ivory, Alaskan Rocks. They do wonderful work but the items are not cheap!! So if you have the extra money you will be very proud to own a piece that they have made.

    Hanson's Custom Carving is a great place to go even if you don't want to shop as he has lot's of carvings that you can pose with. There is also a Merry Go-Round with carved animals on it. $1.00 per ride.When we were there the Merry Go-Round wasn't running as it was very late in the evening....close to 11 PM. The carvings are made with a Chainsaw. His work is amazing considering that it's done with a chainsaw!!
    There is a gift shop that displays the smaller items and the the bigger displays are outside. He can do custom orders. My new VT Passport photo me getting a Bear Hug was taken here. And VTer Kaloz's VT passport photo of the big Alaskan Chair was also taken here several months ago.

    All sorts of carved Alaskan Animals in all sizes.

    You can find lot's of locally crafted items here. Such as paintings ,carvings, moccasins and other cool stuff. There were a few tourists inside buying items when I was there. I was just browsing.......hahaha This store is on the left right on the the Kenai Spur Highway just after the intersection.

    Well, Alot of people from the Kenai Peninsula area that are in the market for the Harley come here. I went to the shop just to check out the bikes but the shop was closed by the time I went there. There were several bikes displayed inside the shop. I guess I'll have to keep on dreaming!! hahah

    If you've come to Soldotna for fishing then there is a good possibility that you'll want to ship your fish home. Sadly shipping your own fish home from Alaska will cost you more than just going to your local fish market and buying the same fish!! But if you still want to ship the fish home there are several places in Soldotna willing to take your money and provide you a great service so you can Barbeque your catch back home and tell stories about the bigger fish that got away.......

    The Soldotna Mall is a small mall right in the center of the main strip. There are a few small shops and it also has the China Sea Restaurant. A better mall is the Peninsula Mall which is almost right across the street. There you'll find a big Safeway for groceries and a lot more stores.

  • Misty's Memories is a small scrapbooking store with a lot of heart! I went there recently with a friend looking for "alaska stuff" to scrapbook my vacation. Misty was more than helpful!! She went out of her way to provide interesting items and one of kinds for us. The candy store which shares the same shop is great too.!
