Favorite thing: The weather can change quite a bit. Try not to rush in and out of town with a set schedule...you might not get to do what you set out to accomplish. Particularly important if you are wanting to flightsee to Denali. Clouds can cover Denali much of the time. You might have to wait until clouds lift later in the day, or even wait for another day if you have your heart set on seeing Denali or landing on the glacier.

Favorite thing: With most travelers heading northward to Denali and Fairbanks, traffic in Talkeetna is limited. Outside of town proper there are very few indications of man's existence, save the occasional string of telephone wires that almost but not entirely subsides in the plushest settings. Wherever you travel by foot in Talkeetna's environs, expect to beat your own path, but whatever you do, leave no trace of your passage.

Favorite thing: As a tiny enclave in the center of the state, Talkeetna is positioned to get its share of mammalian intruders, including moose and grizzly bears. Low-lying waterways, numerous lakes and ponds, intense vegetation and slow-moving creeks provide a wealth of vegetable forage for both the larger species, as well as proteins in the form of fish and calves for the bears. Be alert at all times. The fisherman's greatest dream is to land a monster, but not to confront one on shore.
