getting there is the problem, from the Uk it is 10 hours flying time, but it is worth it. Fly to Seattle and get a cruise to alaska, that way you only have 8 hours flying plus you can relax. A train ride up the moutains are brilliant. you see everything there is to see. Bring back tones off photos to make your friends jelous!!!!! Leave a Comment Theme: Train

The best way to get there is either by boat or by plane. There are some places that you can only get to by plane. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

We flew in to Anchorage then had to take about a 2 hour bus ride to Seward to pick up our ship. Alot of the places we visited were only accessible by plane or boat. Many of the highway roads in these towns are between 14-30 miles and then it just stops. There is no driving from town to town. We were on a cruise ship so we just hopped on and went place to place but I've heard of people chartering planes or riding the train to get from town to town. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

Flew in to Anchorage from Seattle, Alaska Air, nice flight. The Bus Transfer from the airport to the seaport was seamless, with the exception of having to gather like cattle in the waiting area. The bus ride actually cut through some pretty country side, so the views were borderline spectacular. The Sea Princess was great. Very comfortable rooms, we had an inside room, I figured that if I wanted to see the sights, I would be on deck anyway, so why pay the extra for a window or private deck? The food was great, the service was great, the ride was smooth. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

by tim123 I would say the only way to get to Alaska is to take a cruiseship. This is the only way to soak up the scenery and enjoy yourself without worrying about a single thing. If you can't afford it I would suggest trying the Alaska Marine Highway. There are many ferries running between towns everyday along it. When in Alaska I like to take any mode of transportation available. I especially liked trains and boats because you're right in the scenery. I also liked the one airplane we took within Alaska. It was from Anchorage to Fairbanks on a vintage Convair 580, with ERA Aviation. The plane flies lower that jets, especially because it was a shorter flight. It was probably the most memorable plane ride I've taken and the view was amazing (see photo above of Mt. Foraker). Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Fly or drive, although driving is at least 4,000 miles. Rent a car, take a bus or ride the train. You can stop and get off the bus or train most anywhere. You can also take a tour with bicycles, escorted of course Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Definitely by boat! The Alaska Marine Highway sails large nearly cruise-size ships from Seattle, Washington, up the Inside Passage as far north as Skagway. It makes several stops in various cities--for some Alaskan it is the only transport between cities besides seaplane. We booked a berth for most nights but had to sleep in the lounge one night (which many people do). The Alaskans camp out (in tents!) on the deck. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

We took a plane from Chicago-direct flight was not too bad. We had 6 peole in our group so we rented a van for our driving around the area which is very simple. We did not get lost and had a great time checking different places that we would see along the roads around Anchorage. It was very easy to find our way around. I am ready to go back and spend more time driving around and none on a cruise ship! Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Well, you pretty much have to fly here. Alaska Airlines has the most flights . http://www.alaskaair.com Pick up a Great Alaskan Toursaver. http://toursaver.com . There are free tickets in the book for a train ride from Anchorage to Denali Park to Fairbanks and return. Free cruises on the Yukon River, in Seward, Valdez, Whittier and Sitka. Free fishing, free raft trips and a gaggle of two-for-one offers. http://toursaver.com Otherwise, it's good to rent a car. Avis has lots of locations all over. Theme: Train

Drive. Drive. Drive. Drive. Avoid the RV's. Drive some more. Unless you have a personal plane, car is the only way to get around Alaska. And be prepared for some major dust. Remember, this is America's last frontier. Theme: Car/Motor Home
