One of the hiking trails at the park leads to Interruption Point. Interruption Point has great views of the park and the river. (NOTE: The sign at the park calls it Interruption Point while the flyer they hand out at the park calls it Interpretation Point)

If you really want to see a pit mine (a mine dug straight down) there are two along the Mining Trail at Buckskin Mountain State Park.

The Interruption Point Trail is a 1 mile round-trip trail through some rough terrain that leads to a scenic viewpoint. The view at the end is spectacular and makes the hike worthwhile. There is a fair amount of up and down on the trail.

Equipment: Good walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water. Food if you are taking the connecting trails.

About 1/4 mile down the Lightning Bolt Trail you reach a spot where you can continue to the Scenic Overlook or turn down the Buckskin Trail. The Buckskin Trail winds through some rugged terrain in the Buckskin Mountains and leads to the Mining Trail and the Interruption Point Trail. There is a very informative brochure available at the Visitor Center that corresponds to numbered points along the trail and tells you about native plant life.

Equipment: Good walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, maybe a snack.
