To the side of the sundial there is a small area to view the waterfall and a fun Gila Monster Slide for the kids.

While shopping you can walk a short distance to the center (between shops and offices) to see the world's largest sundial.

I live in Carefree, Arizona. Place notoriously known for pricey prime real estate, winter Snowbirds, golf, great resorts, and absolutely exceptional scenery. However, there is another kind of reputation my hometown has got: great off-road motorcycle riding. For you, guys and girls, who love adrenaline of motocross, who wants to get away from paved road and organized activities, who loves outdoors and freedom, who wants to see the beauty not from the window of air-conditioned rental car, but be a part of it, here is the place: Carefree, Arizona, place that was rated by Dirt Rider Adventures magazine and TV as the as one of best riding places in the world. Bartlett Lake area, Granite Mtn, Seven Springs Rd that takes you to hundreds of square miles of Tonto National Forest trails (both- double and single tracks). And it's year around!!!! No sitting home through the winter. So, instead of winterizing your thumper, load up and come check out my playground! It would be very helpful if you have your bike street legal (plate allows you to access more than just trails, but also take public roads when needed and get cops off your back).
From Carefree it takes only 20 min drive to get to Lake Pleasant OHV area and famous outlaw country of Arizona- mining roads- backway to Prescott. Ghost towns on the way guaranteed.
Some places can be accessed on quads, Jeeps or any mid-size or small capable SUV (full size truck is too big). Bring your toys and help us to show that off-road sports fans community is significant and important (and fastest growing too), and not only retirees and golfers are down here in Arizona.
Carefree AZ is located at the very NE tip of Greater Phoenix metro, bordering N Scottsdale on S and E sides and famous Cave Creek town on W side. Places to stay, eat, enjoy Wild West night entertainment. Carefree resorts and Villas, The Bolders.... check lodging online.
See ya on trails!
(BTW this site doesn't even have 4-wheeling anf OHV sports as an option, so I've chosen generic motorcycle)

It's not only one shop, it's a collection of several shops of every kind, mainly southwestern art and decoration.
And all nicely set in a beautiful southwestern colors painted building complex.
What to buy: Southwestern art of all kinds:
Navajo & Hopi art, weaving art, paintings, interior decoration, and much more.
(I saw a beautiful table, made of saguaro skeleton, but it wasn't possible to ship it to my home town :-( ).
Shopping hours:
Mo-Sat: 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m;
Su: noon - 5:00 p.m.
What to pay: Depending what you buy - the "usual" things are about average.
(but it might have changed in the 14 years that I've been there)

North of Phoenix, around Bartlett Lake & Reservoir, you can experience Sonora Desert at it's best.
Hiking is easy, and a wonderful mixture of all typical sonoran desert cacti and other succulents are guaranteed.
Plus, it's not as overcrowded as other parks in the area.
(Please see my travellouge for more pictures of the hike, I took there)
