Glendale Things to Do

  • Bike at Skunk Creek Linear Park - it's...

This paved path with minimal elevation offers bikers a nice 3.5 mile one-way ride, making the cyclist glide from one Glendale park to the next. The City of Glendale has been very pro-active in building parks and making sure that biking trails are accessible to residents and visitors. The path also includes passing the Foothills SK8 Court Plaza which...

  • Cardinals Football

The University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale is the venue where the Arizona Cardinals play their home NFL games. I've been lucky enough to see a couple of games here. A couple of seasons ago my son, Zachary, and I got to see our Cards trounce the Atlanta Falcons in a thrilling overtime victory. Then a couple of weeks ago (Sept. 2010) I got to take...

  • Chase Peacocks in the Glendale Public...

My kids are fans of the library. And so am I! This is where I borrow my travel books and I must admit, I sometimes bring them out of the country, hehehe….The Main Library at Glendale is huge and has a good selection, even of current DVD’s that you can borrow a week at a time. There is also wireless internet and available computer stations for both...

  • Univ of Phoenix Stadium - retracatable...

We are so proud living so near to this stadium which has a retractable roof and field and unlike any other stadium in North America! We have been inside and we see how they take care of the green football fields, and probably how expensive it is to maintain such grass. I eevn heard that sometimes they just donate used grass fields to high...

  • Get wet & happy

Fountain Park is a wonderful place to beat the Arizona heat. They have interactive water jets that the kids (or adults) can play in and there's a lot of seats & seating areas located around the main water jets. This is not the classical fountain where you make a wish and throw in your coins. This is more of a run through the water, let the water...

  • Arena - amazing concerts,...

My brother-in-law had tickets for Rage in the Cage - a fighting match where the fight is really bloody and we watched it in this arena. Kinda reminded me of the gory times of the Gladiators...and this arena was such a modern fit! It is so huge inside! Considered on of Best Concert venue in the Valley! But it is not only gory fights that you can see...

  • Waterworld Safari, now called Wet and...

We've brought the kids here to the very popular Waterworld of Glendale which is open from Memorial Day through labor Day only. This place has great pools for big kids and also for very little kids - my twins enjoyed so much getting wet on slides that were designed specifically for little ones still in diapers. I think it was was called Jungle Jim's...

  • Sahuaro Ranch, Historic Landmark in...

This Sunday afternoon (November 2008), I took my 4 year old twins with me to return some overdue cartoon DVD's at the Glendale Public Library here in Arizona. Heading home, I saw a sign saying "Sahuaro Ranch" as I was at the stoplight at the corner of the library --- Hmmm...I thought a little bit, and decided maybe the kids would enjoy a walk since...

  • See a Robotic Fisherman at Cabela's...

Beside the University of Phoenix stadium is the Cabela's store which has amazing artificial rock formations and a variety of taxidermy stuff (elks, lions, polar bear...) on top of a nice "floor to ceiling" walk-through aquarium featuring huge catfish and other freswater fish - it even has a robotic talking fisherman with life-like flesh and...

  • 6.5 Million Sq Ft of FUN near our house!...

We literally live just a few blocks away from this 6.5 million square feet of shops, restaurants, theaters and residential units in Glendale, Arizona! This is the Home of the Cardinals Football team which unfortunately lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2009 Superbowl (I am still crying and bleeding...sigh)...And the Westgate Center is just...

  • Almost Touch Huge Giraffe Tongue! World...

We live close to this Wildlife World Zoo which just happens to have Arizona's largest collection of exotic animals - more than 1,300 individual animals! That’s great because the twins always watch the Animal Channel! There is a little platform where you can go up and the giraffe goes up to you with its huge tongue --- and you can feed it with little...

Glendale Restaurants

  • Welcome to Moe's

Is what they yell when you walk into the door. The food is great and the location is ideal. It's located in the new Westgate Center next to the stadium where the 2008 Superbowl will be hosted. Burrito, quesadilla. You can put your own burrito together.

  • Good Mexican Food

Good traditional Mexican food. Pollo Especial and Seafood Enchiladas. They have my wife's favorite salsa.

  • Authentic German Restaurant in Glendale,...

It was a chilly December 2008 evening and we just saw the Christmas lights at Glendale and wanted to have something warm --- and we saw this nice restaurant which looked small from outside but was bigger inside. There were also lots of other families with kids. This authentic GERMAN restaurant has live entertainment(Um-Pah-Pah) every Friday and...

  • Clean, new eat-all-you-can restaurant!

This restaurant opened this January 2009 during the time of economic recession. An interesting time to open business --- and the building is newly built with paint still newly put on and spotlessly even...But even with these bad financial times, when you have good food, people still flock to you. And what a bargain! They fill their buffet with...

  • Great place for Soup and Sandwiches

This is a sweet little tea shop nestled between two antique stores in Glendale Arizona. After a nice morning of shopping the antique stores take a break and enjoy some tea and lunch at the Tea Shoppe. This is a sweet little Mom and Pop sort of place. It is very clean and is decorated with some quaint country antiques. The food is good and simple....

  • Best BBQ in the west

This place is very friendly and intimate. It's located in Glendale next to Luke AFB and they have another location off Bell/7th St. I haven't been to that location. I ordered the pork bbq sandwich on the lunch menu and it was great. The sauce is a right touch of sweetness with a kick on the hot. Making me want to take a trip to Kansas to taste it...

  • Dancing and Fine Dining at Skye Bar

Our group of good friends (composed of about 10 families) reserved several tables in this nice restaurants with live dancing and singing for Christmas in 2008. • Easy to Get Around on Public...

I was amazed at how easy it was to get around in Glendale. I rode the city bus and was also able to ride a small, low-cost van service, which functioned almost like a taxi! Transportation back to the Sky Harbor Airport was convenient, could be scheduled in advance, and not too pricey.

Glendale Off The Beaten Path

  • by azminivanracer Written May 1, 2008

ok...if you are REALLY bored. and are REALLY into WWII west on the I-10 from phoenix as if you were headed to los angeles...head north on rout 95 until you come across a ghost town by the name of Poston. Poston was the site of three War Relocation Authority camps; of the three camps, the only one with significant remnants today is Poston I (the main one), located about 0.1 mile west of the main intersection of Poston (on AZ 1 on the C.R.I.T. Reservation). Only a concrete platform remains of Camp III (visible from AZ1), and only the main cistern of Camp II (also visible from AZ1). There is a major monument just south of the fire station in Poston, on the east side of AZ1 with additional information.
REMAINS: In Poston I, there are several barracks buildings, the gymnasium, and other buildings still standing (some inhabited by poor members of the C.R.I.T.). Poston was chosen as the site of three "War Relocation Authority Camps" for Japanese Americans interned under President Roosevelt's Executive Order 9006. The Colorado River Relocation Center, which operated from April 1942 to March 1946, housed about 18,000 individuals, and was the third largest city in Arizona at the time. Those interested in additional information may visit the University of Arizona's Website on the subject:

its really interesting if your bored and like me.

  • Avoiding Baggage Fees

If you're like me, sometimes you'll find yourself with more shopping bags than space in your baggage when it's time to head home. So I always have 2 options! If I'm staying at a friend's house, then I can always call UPS (1-800-PICKUPS) to pick up the boxed items I have (I consolidate all the items into a single box that I would buy at a local...
