 | Grand Canyon Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 52 | | The Canyon Cafe is a fancy name for the cafeteria located where we were staying at -- the Yavapai Lodge , Grand Canyon. The decor is standard cafeteria, and sort of reminded me of my high school days. However, the food here is suprisingly good, and all the service workers are pleasant and helpful if you are searching for something in a sea of glass display cases and people. Prices are quite reasonable as well, great for families or people watching their budget. An average dinner for two adds up to about $20.00 US.
Stick to the basic stuff for the best food. We really liked the hearty breakfasts, the hot beef sandwich, the chicken pot pie, and the fried chicken and fries. The pasta and sauce is not bad. There is a good salad bar (the only one on the South Rim) which is always fresh and topped up with a fair amount of choices. The downside was that they only had iceberg lettuce (I confess! I am a lettuce snob!), but the lettuce was always fresh, with shreds of red cabbage and carrot in it. Kids big and small will love the soft ice cream machine with about 1/2 a dozen different Dreyer's flavors. We also had raspberry cream cake as well, that was obviously not out of a package and was quite good. Our main reason for stopping here was to have the famous Canyon Crunch ice cream, since the the Bright Angel Fountain only takes cash, and we we only had a credit card on us. The room was nice enough, done up in a western theme, but service, though pleasant, crawled at a snail's pace even though the restaurant was half-empty.
We decided we might as well have lunch, and I had the Hiker's Salad, which was grilled chicken breast, salad, and romano cheese. The salad was iceberg lettuce ( the lettuce snob rears her ugly head again) which was described on the menu as "mixed greens", the chicken breast was okay, but the worst thing about the salad was the pre-grated-in-a-canister Romano cheese. Ick. The saving grace of the salad was the delightfully sweet and spicy Grape-Serrano salad dressing, sort of like a vinagrette. My husband had a cheese burger and onion rings, and he thought the burger was pretty good, and the onion rings outstanding. The Canyon Crunch ice cream is very yummy. It appears to be vanilla ice cream with chocolate and butterfinger pieces. However, the waiter told us that it is no longer being made, as the Grand Canyon is the only purchaser, and it's not cost effective for the company that produces it. I thought the food was okay, but I expected the quality to be better. It seemed to be about the same as at the Yavapai cafeteria. You would be probably better off at the cafeteria, as the prices are cheaper. After our shuttle along Hermit Road we returned to Grand Canyon Village just as darkness was falling. It wasn't a long walk to Bright Angel Lodge, so we zipped up the walkway to have dinner there. The generously-sized dining room had high, wood-beamed ceilings and comfy booths or tables filled with diners ready for a hearty meal after a long day at the canyon. Lodge-style decor set the theme for the restaurant. The menu included a wide variety of dishes. It didn't take me long to decide upon a Colter quesadilla with Buffalo chicken ($7.15) and Jim ordered a Chicken Fajita ($13.00). I should have realized "Buffalo" chicken would be spicey--it was...but also very good! Bright Angel is a lodge within Grand Canyon village and also includes a cocktail lounge and small gift shop.

The Bright Angel was just what my son and I were looking for. If we wanted a humber and fries they had it. There were a lot of other items on the menu that would please people too. If you want to have a couple of drinks that is availble also. Before we hiked to the bottom of the Canyon we ate breakfast at The Bright Angel. It was clean and well run. The location is nice. Right by the Grand Canyon and next to Kolb and Lookout Studios. Not to mention the beautiful views.
Basic burger and fries. The breakfast was great too. Leave a Comment Theme: AmericanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Grand Canyon VillageOther Contact: mikeh166@mchsi.com

I'm not going to break this into detail but here's a general rundown: El Tovar - Did it one night. Good but busy and expensive. Big, dark, gloomy dining room with very few seats by the window. If dining after dark and you have a fat wallet, go ahead and make reservations. Bright Angel coffeeshop - least expensive of the 3 restaurants and offers standard fare. Not much for a view either. Arizona Steakhouse - didn't do. Very busy- make a reservation and, if it's after dark, you won't see anything from the windows. Best bets - Yavapai and Maswick Lodge cafeterias. Big and somewhat institutional (remember school lunch?) rooms but quick, inexpensive and lots of choices. Great choice for students, families and the rest of us who'd rather pack a sandwich to a rim spot than deal with reservations. Your pasta won't be al dente but you'll be full and happy (and so will your wallet). There's also Bright Angel Fountain, a snack bar at Hermit's Rest and another cafeteria at the Desert View entrance. Leave a Comment

The Arizona Room is a fine place to eat. It has a pleasant atmosphere and pretty good food. But the thing that brings most people to the Arizona Room is the view in which you can see the sunset over the Grand Canyon. Everybody knows that the sunset is beautiful, but put that with the Grand Canyon and it is spectacular! I've only been there once, but the time I went there the service was good. The park always tells you what time sunset is so you can get there on time. On the downside, there is always a lot of people who want to see the sunset, so it can be crowded and noisy. Overall, the service is good, the food is better, and the view is great.
The one dish I tried was a fish filet with lemon and herbs on top.

We arrived late in the evening to Best Western's Grand Canyon Squire Inn feeling famished! Fortunately, the Coronado restaurant was still serving dinner, so we wasted no time getting seated. A warm basket containing three different types of rolls with butter was placed before us. Needless to say, we tucked into that quickly. I ordered chicken with asparagus over fettucine and tomatoes served with a white pasta sauce. It was tasty and comfortably filling. As the meal progressed, we found that our long day of driving suddenly didn't seem so tiring. We had totally relaxed! Our service was prompt and courteous; the table set beautifully and it was a very pleasant meal! Two years ago we stayed two nights at the Yavapai Lodge. At the start and end of our days we ate at the restaurant. We were very hungry and tired so the food should have tasted great. Instead what I found was a lack of variety, small portions, and the food wasn't that great. By the way it was very expensive too. Last year I enjoyed the Bright Angel restaurant a lot more. I didn't feel like I was in some run down high school cafeteria. After spending the night at the Phantom Ranch we were booked in the Maswik Lodge and ate in their cafeteria. That wasn't as good as the Bright Angel resaurant but was newer and more exceptable.
Not really anything. Leave a Comment Theme: AmericanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Next to Yavapai Lodge across from the visitor's center.Other Contact: mikeh166@mchsi.com

El Tovar's dining room is the only 'fine dining' establishment within the park. Reservations are needed for the evening meal. Dad and I had decided, upon the recommendation of the desk staff at Maswik, to come here for our breakfast ... man ..... they were right! The breakfast menu is extensive and the items are quite good! I had an omelette with spinach and wild mushroom, potatoes, and sourdough bread. Dad had the biscuits and gravy with sausage. My only regret is that I wish I'd had the fruit instead of the potatoes ... oven roasted and too similar to the potatoes we had at dinner the night before. While I spied the table next to me the BEST looking side of fruit EVER! Of course, being a bad VTer, no pics of food here either :) But the second link is to a pdf file of their breakfast menu :) Leave a Comment

This is another mediocre steakhouse. I mean, the food was decent, but just not worth the high price they charge here. Unfortunately, you have to realize that everything has to be trucked in to the Grand Canyon, so prices go up as a result. Anyway, this is a nicer dining establishment, but casual dress is still acceptable. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Next to Bright Angel Lodge on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon
