They ae happy to have food!

Bright Angel Lodge is central to a lot of activities along the rim and has several options for meals. There are two full restaurants, both pretty good, a snack bar that sells wonderful ice cream and a bar that doubles as a coffee and pastry bar in the mornings.

The Arizona Room is there nicest restaurant and we had a very nice dinner here. I had a tender and juicy beef tenderloin filet in a reoasted red pepper cream sauce, roasted cumin onion rings (an unusual but very nice flavor), sour cream and cheddar mashed potatoes and green beans. My wife and grandson had the trout with lemon sage butter accompanied by a black bean rice pilaf and green beans. Both my wife and I had a glass of Zinfandel as well. We finished off by sharing the chef’s dessert special of the day, a Fudge Lava Cake with ice cream on top. It was a delicious, moist, very chocolate, large hunk of dessert. Good thing we only ordered one. A fine dinner for us all.

The restaurant inside the 1905 built historical El Tovar Hotel.

Imagine after a long morning hike along the canyon in two-feet snow, then sit next to a fireplace and enjoy the good food with a spectacular view of the Grand Canyon.

Did I mention all their waiting staff are young, tall, slim and handsome and pleasant guys?

The El Tovar Lodge has a great reputation and deservedly so. We enjoyed an evening meal with out party of eight and everyone enjoyed their meal. Excellent service, although out server did not quite get it right when I told he I wanted the good cabernet served with the main course. At least she brought it before the main course.

In the centre of all lodges there's a large cantina-like restaurant that offers nice menu's for everbody's wishes. Though the atmosphere is rather crowdy and inpersonal, the food is surprisingly good.

The Mexican-influenced (local) dsihes are very tasty.

Max and Thelma's is a huge buffet restaurant and does its main business from people on packages involving stays at the GC Railway Hotel and riding the train to the South Rim. Dinner was included in our hotel fee but we arrived too late. We did have breakfast the next morning and the choices are pretty wide if predictable. However, the food was good.

The restaurant is named for Max and Thelma Biegert who bought the railway in 1989, refurbished it and put it back in service. They also developed the hotel and the reataurant.

This place doubles as a bar late in the day and evening and a coffee house in the morning. If you are in a hurry for breakfast or just want a light one, the Canyon Coffee House is a good alternative. The menu is limited to juices, coffees and pastries but the pastries are good and the coffee very good. It is also set in a very colorful room in the Bright Angel Lodge.

The cinnamon rolls are huge and very tasty.

Haystacks, horse saddles, country music, waiters wearing cowboy boots and hats - welcome to the wild west! Not too fancy but authentic and good quality for more than moderate prices

The Cowgirl Steak - a filet mignon from the grill, served with house salad, baked potatoe, beans and corn on the cobb. Also don't miss the dessert choice!
