Our "Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam Day Trip from Las Vegas with Optional Skywalk" tour had also optional 'Helicopter / Boat Combo' Upgrade - 15 min. each.
Couple words about timing. We had 4 hours effective time there. However, this was barely enough time for us just to look around (we didn’t book any extra activities) and it’s for sure too short to fully enjoy the helicopter tour, the boat ride and skywalk. As a result we were hanging around more than an hour waiting for people who missed the bus leaving the Grand Canyon because they had the helicopter tour.
There are lots of Helicopter tours from Vegas to West Rim (with or without landing):
- Grand Canyon West Rim Helicopter Tour with Landing (from $300)
- Grand Canyon West Rim Deluxe Sunset Helicopter Tour (from $420)
- Skip the Line: Grand Canyon Skywalk Express Helicopter Tour (from $440) etc.
May be it's a better way to see Grand Canyon from the air.
Wake me up don't let me sleep
open my eyes to the wonder you keep
Let me look at you see how you shine
I'll fall in love like I've done every time.
And I've been searching for a place where I belong,
sun in my eyes, and the wind at my back
I'm bound and determined to get
back on track to where the heart is,
where it's been all along.
Sometimes you don't know you've got til' it's gone.

We found a combined air and ground tour in Las Vegas with Vision Airlines at a discount tour booth between the Harley Davidson Cafe and Travelodge on The Strip. In the price we got:
- hotel pick up and drop off
- flight in a small aircraft to and from North Las Vegas airport
- guaranteed window seat
- Legacy Tour package
- lunch.
The flight took us above Hoover Dam and Lake Mead (on the way there only), Nellis Air Force Base, the Strip (on the way back only) and of course, the West Rim. Flying in a small aircraft was ok for the most part, but when we hit some air pockets I got a little scared.
Upon checking in at the airport, we got weighed and assigned a seat that we couldn't change afterwards because of the weight balance of the aircraft. On board we got noise canceling headphones and an air tour of the sights we flew over (a little outdated tho).
As of Nov 2009, we paid 219 US (normal price 259 US) each including taxes.
We were picked up early in the morning at our hotel - Tropicana hotel in Las Vegas - and delivered to the Airport. Flight from Boulder Airport to the Grand Canyon.
Tour began with a flight over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam before flying to the South Rim. (The Hoover Dam on Colorado River creates Lake Mead at the border of Nevada-Arizona.
Length 379 m, height 221 m.)
From Grand Canyon Airport motorcoach tour with more stops at South Rim. The Grand Canyon, one of the wonders of the world, has been created by Colorado River cutting through rock for two billion years. The canyon is 446 km long, from 6 to 24 kilometers wide and more than a mile deep.
Late afternoon back to Las Vegas.
Duration cca. 8 hours including more than 2 hours flight. Price was about $200,- pro Person. Everything was allright.
Book your helicopter flight when you actually get to Vegas as it’s much cheaper than the flights you see online. There are lots of different ones to choose from I went on the one that sets down on the ranch and you have lunch. Make sure you change seats if your sat in the back going you should be in the front coming home the captain told us they draw straws so its fair if people haven’t sorted it out themselves. Be very careful as everyone on the helicopter can hear every word you say into the mic on your ear protectors. Sorry the picture isn’t very clear.
The experience of flying into the Grand Canyon is really great. You feel like a little bug flying around a large world. We had been to the Canyon once before and went by car, that was a long drive....
Now it was just a bit more then a hour to arrive here from Las Vegas. We did it as part of our marriage, but we should have done it before...
If you're short on time and want a taste of the Grand Canyon, try a Scenic Air flight. We took the hour long Hoover Dam and Western Grand Canyon air tour. The views were excellent, but beware- if you're even the SLIGHTEST bit prone to motion sickness, take something before you get on the plane!
If you take a helicopter out of the canyon, either arrive very early (before 9am) or expect to leave later in the day.
The sign-up desk doesn't open till 10am. and they don't take reservations. It's a first-come, first-served.
We eventually rode out on the helicopter at 3:30pm even though we showed up at 9am. Turns out the local Indians and people with certain tour groups have priority over everyone else.
The helicopter ride is only about five (5) minutes but your do get a great view!
With a Helicopter. From Las Vegas you can book a tour with a Helicopter to the Grand Canyon. It is really expensive, but according to the stories I heard about it, it is very special. (I haven't done it, but my parents did. I just used the car)
Take a helicopter tour of the canyon to see the 7th natural wonder of the world.
