  • I flew there from Las Vegas in one of these tiny planes run by Scenic Airlines. A bit of a bumpy ride, but some great views! You can also do the trip by helicopter. If you've got plenty of time, it would probably be a great place to drive to!
If you've got the time, walk! It's a great place to do it!

  • definitely by car. However, you can also fly in or catch a Greyhound bus.
From the South Rim Visitor Center there´s a shuttle bus along the eastern rim, stopping at the most beautiful viewpoints. Of course, you can also hike........... :-)

  • There's three (3) ways to the Havasupai Indian Reservation, starting from the Hualapai Hilltop.

First is to hike eight (8) miles down the trail. You should a liter or two (2) of water if it's sunny. If it's raining, you have to be careful about flash floods.

The second way is to ride a horse. You need to make reservations two (2) weeks prior on the down route but only need a 1-day notice on the way up. The horse rental is $78.75/one-way.

The third method is to take a helicopter. It's $70 one-way.
Once at the Havasupai Village, you can either hike down to the camp grounds or rent a horse.

Options: If you come to Grand Canyon by car
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you come to Grand Canyon by car, I can recomend a few other places to go. See my Flagstaff and Winslow pages.

If you get the time, be sure to watch the sun set in the little painted dessert. A short drive north of Windslow. Not far from G.C.
Another tip - if you have heard of Gene Shoemaker, is to see the meteor crater near Flagstaff. He insisted it was made by a meteor. They first laughed at him..... Now his ashes are, as the only one, on the moon...

  • You can hike in from the Hualapai Hilltop to the Supai Village. It's about eight (8) miles through some very scenic red rock formations to the Supai village and lodge, and another 2 miles to the campgrounds.

  • Tip Rating:
  • If you plan on flying to Grand Canyon, there are two ways to go. If you book your flight to Las Vegas (NV), you will then need to book a flight from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon on Scenic Airlines (beatiful views!). The toll-free number for Scenic Airlines reservations is 1-800-634-6801. If you prefer by car, from Las Vegas the faster route is US93 South until you find highway I-40 and after the I-64, north direction. You can also book a flight to Phoenix (AZ). From Phoenix, you can take the Nava-Hopi bus line to Flagstaff (AZ) (A beatiful town where you can visit the Lowell Observatory, Museum of Northern Arizona an the Pioneer Museum) then change buses in Flagstaff to Grand Canyon (120 kms approximately). Call Nava-Hopi at 1-800-892-86-87 for times. If you prefer by your own car from Flagstaff, I-40 East until you find US89 North (beatiful views!!!!!!!!!!!!); then 64 North. And please, Keep in mind !!! that if you fly to Phoenix you will need to spend an overnight in Flagstaff due to the bus schedules. (Go to the Lowell Observatory by night is worthwhile!)
The FREE (Yes, that's great!) shuttle bus system to transport you around the village.

  • Tip Rating:
  • PLANE - Commercial air carriers serve Las Vegas, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Grand Canyon Airport (in Tusayan, just south of the park).

CAR - Grand Canyon Village (SOUTH RIM) is located 60 miles north of Interstate 40 at Williams via highway 64, and 80 miles northwest of Flagstaff via highway 180. Only ten miles from rim to rim as the crow flies, the North Rim is 215 miles (about 4 1/2 hours) from the South Rim by car. The NORTH RIM is 44 miles south of Jacob Lake, AZ, via highway 67.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION - Bus Service between Grand Canyon National Park and Flagstaff, Arizona is offered by Nava-Hopi Tours, 800-892-8687, and by South Rim Travel, 520-638-2748. Greyhound Bus Lines offers service from Flagstaff and Williams to points nationwide. Grand Canyon Railroad offers service between Williams and the canyon, 1-800-THE-TRAIN. A shuttle service is provided seasonally between the North Rim and the South Rim by Trans-Canyon Shuttle, 520-638-2820.
A free shuttle service is available year round throughout Grand Canyon Village and out to the South Kaibab Trailhead. From March to November, free shuttle service is available along Hermit Road. When the Hermits Rest shuttle bus is running, Hermit Road is closed to private vehicles.

  • Tip Rating:
  • If you visit the Grand Canyon, be prepared to either rent a car (actually, it may be the best option, as you are likely to come from Las Vegas or LA anyway), or wait for a local bus that runs only a few times a day between the nearest town and the National Park. Greyhound goes up to Williams, but from there you still need to take another eighty-hundred miles or so..
You can also take a flight over the Canyon. Book your flight locally at Grand Canyon Village or in advance in Las Vegas - daytrips are also available from there.
