Only what you need. Remember to bring at least one gallon of water per day, sunscreen, sunglasses and a visor to protect against the sun and heat. An extra pair of hiking socks is also a must.

Well broken in hiking boots and not sneakers. Also, bring raingear. There are monsoons in the summer and the winter months can bring storms as well. Also, DO NOT WEAR OR BRING JEANS. Denim does not dry quickly if it gets wet. It will only weigh you down.

Again, only what you need. A first aid kit with aspirin, ibuprophen and band aids for blisters are a must.

    Definitely

Trekking poles are a good idea

Remember to pack out your trash!

    Temperature Extremes: Temperature

    My dad in early morning

Our trip was in October, and it was cold in the morning. In the picture my dad has on his overcoat, and was still too cold, so he has borrowed my scarf and has it wrapped around his head (it is Navy and gold). The arid South Rim is pleasant, even in the peak of summer. It gets nippy in the winter. The inner gorge OTOH is relentlessly hot in the summer. So be prepared for this.

    Boots: Packing List
  • Tip Rating:
  • Temperature in the Canyon changes without prior notice. So bring enough warm clothing, especially in the Winter. Comfortable walking shoes are necessities.

This is a photographer wonder. All kinds of lens: zoom, wide angle, etc... Viewcams, digital cameras, medium-format, normal 35mm films, whatever you feel comfortable with. Many many rolls of films; a must!

Water: Water is a life saver!
No one should try to hike into the Crand Canyon without carrying sufficient water supplies. During the summer months it will get very hot below the rim of the canyon to the point that the extreme heat can become life threatening without preparation. Bring at least a gallon per person to be on the safe side.
