Bright Angel Restaurant: Eats at the Angel
This is one of three wait-staffed restaurants at the South Rim, and the least expensive of those options - although we noticed that the dinner menu had been upscaled since our last visit. It’s a commodious, casual dining room with windows facing the rim but no canyon view (it sits too far back) so don’t feel as if you MUST land a booth on that side.
The dinner menu is limited to 11 or so entrees; burgers are the only sandwich options during the evenings. Half-order entrees are available for kids under 13.
We had Sonoran Chicken with chipotle cream sauce (The Husband) and River Runner trout with dijonaise sauce (me) and side salads. The greens were fresh - no iceberg! - and both entrees were generous and tasty, although the dijonaise could have had a bit more punch. Both entrees came with a side of veggies which were thankfully crisp-cooked and not the least bit mushy. A glass or two of drinkable wine, and we left full and happy. Prices were in line with restaurants offering similar fare just about anywhere in the U.S, and service was prompt and friendly BUT we’d purposely landed in here at the opening hour to avoid the rush. The place was nearly full by the time we left, and they do not take reservations.
Memorable? Probably not but neither was it the negative experience I read so often from visitors to the National Parks. If you or your kids are picky eaters, you’ll probably do better at one of the food courts/cafeterias (Yavapai or Maswik) which offer more choices.

Bright Angel Bar: Simple Bar Food amongst Nature's Wonders
We decided to have lunch and a beer at the Bright Angel Bar. It's a comfy enough place, but I have to say, they missed the boat when they planned out this building. The gift shop has the prime real estate, with the windows overlooking the canyon. The bar is rather closed off, with windows looking out toward the front. We would have been far more tempted to linger over more drinks, had the view been of the caoyon.
That said, we did time our meal break perfectly as a rain storm, complete with thunder, hit while we were there.
Favorite Dish: I had a buffalo burger and onion rings. It was tasty. I'm getting to be a fan of these low fat buffalo burgers. John will have to tell you about the beer. I had diet coke, being the designated driver. They didn't have iced tea. What's up with that?
Bright Angel: Very Nice
Probably the best restaurant in the park. Great location and great food at afforodable prices. Came here on several occasions and we were happy everytime. The place gets busy so be sure to reserve in advance.
