    Ride the Dixie Belle

by Basaic Written Mar 4, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A great way to see Lake Havasu is by boat. One nice option is the Dixie Belle Lake Havasu's only paddlewheel boat. The Dixie Belle departs from a dock in English Town and costs about $15 per person (less for kids). It operates 7 days week as long as the weather permits. I wanted to take the tour myself but weather did not permit it.

    Lake Havasu Musem of History

by Basaic Updated Jan 31, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Lake Havasu City was formed only in 1964; but it still has the "Lake Havasu Museum of History". The museum is actually pretty well done and has a number of interesting displays about the history of the area and of course London Bridge. Hours are 1 to 4 PM Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $4 and children 12 and under and Historical Society Members get in free. This museum is worth checking out when you are in the area. Photo 1 is the exterior of the museum; Photo 2 is the display about Native American Tribes from the area; Photo 3 is a display about really ancient area residents; Photo 4 shows the importance of the Colorado River; and Photo 5 shows the importance of the area in World War II.

The area at the base of the London Bridge is called English Town. It has restaurants, shops and lots of little touches to evoke a little bit of Jolly Old England. It is a very popular tourist stop and is well worth a visit. The Visitor's Center is here too.

    Lake Havasu State Park

by Basaic Updated Mar 4, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Lake Havasu State Park is located along the scenic shores of Lake Havasu on the north side of the city not far from the London Bridge. The park has beautiful beaches, nature trails, 3 boat ramps, picnic areas and 47 convenient campsites. It is a paradise for boating enthusiasts and anyone who loves the water and great scenery. The Mohave Sunset Trail (1.5 miles each way) winds its way through the lowland desert and along the shoreline. At about the midpoint of the trail is the Arroyo-Camino Interpretive Garden which showcases the diverse life that exists within the park and this area of the desert. Birds, lizards, and desert cottontails are common sights.

As with most state and national parks, your first stop will be the visitor's center. Here you will pay the entrance fee, get brochures about the park and other area attractions, and you can buy any needed gifts or souvenirs.

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to meet the locals and my fellow travellers. Kate is a Park Ranger at Lake Havasu State Park; Stan is the regional commander for the VFW and the last photo is of two Welsh guys I met.

    London Bridge

by basstbn Written Feb 25, 2003

In 1962, English officials discovered that the London Bridge was sinking, and made the radical decision to sell the bridge by auction. In 1968, London Bridge was dismantled and moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where it was painstakingly reassembled.

    The London Bridge in AZ

    by AVG2319 Written Sep 20, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

What? that is my first thought, but yes the London Bridge can be seen in Lake Havasu, AZ

In 1962, it was discovered that the London Bridge was "falling down," because it was not adequate for the increase in traffic. The City of London decided to put the 130-year old bridge up for auction, and construct a new one in its place. The founder of Lake Havasu submitted the winning bid and the bridge was shipped by boat to California and then trucked to Lake Havasu. This process took a total of 3 years. The bridge was then reconstructed across the lake.

This was a pretty cool historical piece of architecture smack in the desert. We just passed through this town on our way elsewhere, so I don't know too much about the area. Lake Havasu is a favorite spot for water sports and more touristy than other areas.

    London Bridge

In 1966, I walked across the London Bridge in London. 36 years later, I walked across the same bridge - this time in the middle of the Arizona desert. This famous bridge might well be Arizona's second most famous tourist attraction now - behind only the Grand Canyon.

    World Final JetSki Races

by stappm Updated Oct 21, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Annually the World Final Jetski Races are held at Lake Havasu. Usually the second week in October, racers from all over the world Thailand to Kuwait, Belguim to DownUnder gather to determine who is the fastest man, woman and youth on water. As a spectator, the freestylers are the most fun to watch, but the racers are going incredibly fast. I must admit my favorite team this year was Team Kuwait and team Thailand... perhaps as they come from some of my favorite destinations... or that they came from so far away. All the racers dedication is intense and quite fun to watch!

    See the London Bridge!

by Bostephenson Written Aug 25, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Okay, we're talking about a bridge that was brought brick by brick from London to Lake Havasu City just because the British swindled an American who tried to buy the Tower Bridge in London and he got mad. Therefore, each section of the bridge was numbered and moved to Lake Havasu, where it stands today! How many other expatriated famous bridges do you plan on seeing in your life?

    Cross the famous London...

Cross the famous London Bridge. This bridge once spanned the river Thames in London for almost 140 years. The bridge survived the bombing from the Germans in both World Wars, but it could not withstand the forces of nature, as it was sinking into the River Thames' clay bottom.

falling apart there. The bridge have now been removed, stone-by-stone from London and was again re-built, but this time here in Arizona.
