Lukeville is located in the extreme southern part of the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. This park is one of the best locations for seeing this particular type of cacti. Other forms of cacti also grow here. There are several nice hiking trails. Keep in mind it gets very hot and dry here so drink lots of water. There is also a lot of illegal border crossings and drug smuggling in the area, so be aware of your surroundings. I will have a full page under the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument soon.
Lukeville exists as a crossing point from the United States into Sonoyta, Mexico. There is little there except a gas station, places that sell insurance for driving in Mexico, the border facilities and a grocery store/cafe. According to the 2000 census the population of Lukeville was 35. I don't think it got much bigger since then.
There is one place to eat in the tiny town of Lukeville, the Gringo Pass Grocery and Cafe. As you might guess since it is on the border with Mexico and 71.7% of its 35 residents are Hispanic the food tends toeward Mexican. The food was not that good. The service was average at best. I do not plan to return.
Favorite Dish: I don't have one, the enchilada platter was not very good.
