Saguaro Cactus by kazander Hiking shoes if you plan to tour the many State or National parks. Lightweight clothing, layers if you go in the winter time, and a coat if you will be in the northern part of the state. Fancier clothes if you plan on going out to dinner in one of the cities,(though it's not necessary)
Sunscreen, you can pick it up here if you have forgotten yours at home.
Lots of film or media cards, both zoom and wide angle lenses, polarizer and perhaps an intensifier filter. I like having a macro lens, but really that's just a personal preference.
you can get anything you need here so don't worry if you've forgotten anything! Leave a Comment

Javalina Mom and Baby by madamx Make sure that you bring layers with you, especially if you are travelling during the spring like we did. The desert can get suprisingly cool at night, and of course, very hot during the day. The Grand Canyon can get snow into June, as it is situated at 7,000 feet. A wide-brimmed hat is handy as well, and I noticed there are many for sale at reasonable prices in Arizona, if you can't find one in your hometown.
Make sure you bring a high SPF sunscreen, especially if you don't have a base tan like we didn't, coming out from a Canadian winter. Leave a Comment

Be prepared for both warm and cool weather. It can be cold on top of a mountain, even in the summer months.
Take along some water to drink if you are traveling by car, Sometimes there are lots of miles in between restaurants while traveling through the deserts. Leave a Comment

Lake Havasu is like a summer-long Mardi Gras, so you'll need plenty of beads if you hope to get anyone to flash you. Oh... and don't forget your sunscreen. I saw a poor fellow or two with some serious and painful looking sunburns! Bathingsuit... that's optional! =P
You definitely should bring some sort of camera to capture this hedonistic party... talk about one big kodak moment!
There are places to camp along the lake, but the heat is so intense that you'll probably want to opt for the comfortable hotel.
You'll need to bring an open mind and a healthy sense of humor for this adventure! Leave a Comment

Standard accessory in the Southwest :) by kymbanm 1. A day bag that will hold your ever-present water bottle and your camera :)
2. Jeans - don't need to be pressed and starched, but can be if you choose ... 3. Boots - from rock star trendy to on the farm cowboy boots ... doesn't matter! Wear w/ your jeans, a dress/skirt or whatever ... okay just don't wear w/ your shorts! 4. Layered clothing. The weather is mostly sunny, but being desert, temperatures can vary 30 degrees F in a 24 hour period. Plan for both hot and cool climates while here, so layering is 'a good thing'.
5. SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN!!!! SPF15 at a minimum - regardless of the time of year. High desert alitutude change the way you'll respond to the sun so even if you normally won't burn in the winter - your skin will be affected - so be prepared :) 6. Moisturizer (inside and out) is imperative. The high desert and quite arid. Your body will shrivel like a raisin in the sun if you don't drink lots of water and use moisturizer!
7. Camera of your choice. The sky, architecture, and natural beauty is awe-inspiring. You don't want to go outside without your camera!
8. Walking shoes. You will wander and walk - your feet will always appreciate good walking shoes.
9. Altitude sickness is a problem for many who travel from sea level. It can be a simple as a headache, or more serious. 10. Rest, WATER (an ounce per pound of body wieght please), and respecting your body's own messaging system are imperative :) Keep in mind that the deserts in this reagoin vary in altitude from below sea level to over 7000ft above it! 11. If you are prone to allergies, bring your usual stash of anti-allergy meds and remedies. Being in a dry environment can exacerbate your allergies. 12. Glasses. Being arid, some find their contacts uncomfortable here - so bring your glasses to give your eyes a rest :) And of course, being the desert, don't forget your sunglasses! Leave a Comment

HOT! The weather is HOT here. OK, not totally... but Phoenix can get sizzling in the 110's regularly, and most of the desert areas will be pretty hot. However, go to Flagstaff and it will be pretty cool... 70's? Even the top of the grand canyon isn't always hot, especially in the evenings. Anyway... so bring plenty of shorts, but also bring a pair of long pants and a jacket just in case. The Grand Canyon can get snow in winter, by the way!
Sunscreen.... you can get really burnt here! Not only do you have altitude working against you, but just the constant beating of the sun. Ouch!
Bring plenty of film. But also realize that unless you're an experienced photographer, you may not get the photos you wants. Well, maybe what I mean by this is that photos cannot do the Grand Canyon justice!! You can't get a feeling for its size through photos. Leave a Comment

There is a 40 degree temperature difference between the middle of the day and the middle of the night during any given time of year. They key to climate happiness in Arizona is layers, layers, layers, bring it all!
SUNSCREEN and RE-APPLY OFTEN or you WILL be SORRY!!
One of those mini battery operated fans can come in pretty handy, and wearing shoes at all times in the summer is a must, your feet can get third degree burns on them just going to the mailbox! Did I mention SUNSCREEN?? SUNSCREEN!!!!
