Bee Line Cafe: Nice Smalltown Cafe

by Basaic Updated Dec 5, 2008

    Bee Line Cafe

The Bee Line Cafe has been an institution in Payson for years. It started out as an ice cream parlor and eventually became a full cafe. The menu mostly leans towards sandwiches and soups but there are bigger meals available. The staff was very friendly. (I will expand this tip with more info when I find my notes again).

Favorite Dish: Try the soft serve ice cream.

    Mandarin House: Good Chinese Buffet

    Mandarin House Restaurant

The Mandarin House Restaurant is located right next to the Motel 6 where I was staying so I thought it would be a good choice for dinner after a long day of driving, hiking and touring. The building is not very impressive from the outside. Inside the decor was about what you would expect. The hostess was friendly and efficient. I got my plate and started down the buffet selecting various Mandarin and Szechuan dishes. The food was well prepared and it was all you can eat. They had a decent selection of desserts. All in all a good deal, and I would go back.

Favorite Dish: Chicken in Black Bean Sauce.

it ain't here: If you want Chinese food...

by thechels Updated Apr 8, 2008

I hear that each chinese food eatery in town here has at least one or two dishes that are yummy... i reckon it's up to you to eat there enough times to find them.... i haven't had the money to do that but what i have tried wasn't great.

I think it's just too redneck a town to appreciate good Chinese food. sad... but true. Save your money. Go to mcdonalds or something.

    Knotty pine cafe: omg

The food tasted good the burger was rather large...and greasy.
If you don't mind paying 5 dollars for a hot dog or 4.50 for a grilled cheese sandwich or egg salad sandwich, perhaps 8.25 for a 4 piece chicken strip dinner, then i say go for it. she even offered me mayonaise to which i foolishly replied sure then charged me 1.50 for two small scoops of mayonaise. The only upside to this place that i found was the free drink refills. Drink up!

Personally i found the waitress to have a "chip on her shoulder", and the homeade tasting food to be greasy and over priced.

Favorite Dish: Cheeseburger not priced too badly.

    Haunted: Main Street Grille...

by thechels Updated Jun 13, 2007

This place has actually had "the experts" come in and check out their haunt.... they know of at least 2 "permanent" haunters... a young 8 year old girl, and an older man. The food here..ah... not so great, i thought. Just a personal opinion, but a fun history of Zane Grey lined the walls, and the haunting deal was spooky neat...

Favorite Dish: I had the patty melt.. like i said.. not impressed.. edible.. not great.
