One of the stops in the petrified forest part of the park is the Jasper Forest. It has an observation point but you are not supposed to walk out amongst the logs. The Crystal Forest Stop is better.

This log is about 40ft., if I remember correctly. It's a natural brige, with one intact petrified log.

    cracked crust

This was at the beginning of our drive -- the land was parched, but the crusty earth did not crumble as you stepped on it. Strange. I liked it!

Anasazi ruins along the Puerco River

After leaving the Painted Desert section and after crossing the Puerco River, you will find these ruins. The ruins, next to the river are partially excavated, mute evidence to life here before 1400.
