In the heart of beautiful Desert Ridge Marketplace, in North Phoenix lies an underground nightclub called Scorch Bar. The club features indoor and outdoor bars, a dance floor, and cozy booths (that fill up fast).
Scorch Bar is filled with giant lava lamps and with glowing bar tops, and (sometimes) the all glow in sync to the music.
After 11:00 pm shadow dancers dance behind screens and sometimes a go go dancer dances behind the outdoor bar.
One of the neatest things there is that one of the mirrors in the bathroom is actually a window into the mens/ladies room. You can only see people washing their hands and primping, but it is funny to watch a girls eyes when she sees a guy in the mirror and turns around in shock, only to finally figure out it is a window.
Warning, the music is loud here (but you can go to the outdoor bar if you want quiet converstion).
So if you are staying in a north Scottsdale / Phoenix resort and want some upscale nightlife, I would check out Scorch Bar.
Dress Code: People dress nice here... nice slacks and shirt for the men, ladies wear whatever they want.
If you don't like hip hop, you just might love this place anyway! It really is a blast. The people are there to have a good time and the cover is low. Loud music in a great atmosphere! Check it out!
Dress Code: I observed no dress code but I would be cautionary of jeans and ball caps... try something a little softer for going out on the town. Besides, you never know the the next bar the night might lead you to!
If you like dancing, live music, flavored martini's and cute bartenders, than Martini Ranch is the place for you.
The club is located in the center of the trendy club district in Scottsdale and features indoor bands, and outdoor dancing.
The place is casual and gets wild, but it is not a meat market. Certainly not a romantic place, but more a place to cut loose and have fun.
Dress Code: You can wear anything you want at Martini Ranch. The place is full of college kids all the way up to 30 somethings.
This is a place where beautiful people go to hang with other beautiful people. In front of the club you will see $200,000 cars and long lines to get in. Axis is a restaurant and lounge, which draws a fairly upscale crowd. hen you're done with the restaurant and the bar [Axis], you just go next door to the club [Radius].
Axis/Radius offers 2 floors of high-energy dance spins from some of the top DJs. The house gets packed around 10pm and shakes all night long. As always the case in Scottsdale, parking is tight, get there early or shell out a couple extra bucks for the valet (its worth every penny). You can spend all night jetting from one side to the next. The crowd is mixed 20s to early 30s. Great service, great people, good fun.
Dress Code: Dress to impress. This is a classy place!
Dos Gringos is an interesting bar and restaurant. It is mostly outdoors and has an upper deck area. There is even an old style drive in movie theater seating on the upper deck where they show various movies from the past. Cool place for a group to go hang out one evening.
Maloney's is very down to earth and has quite a crowd... usually. It really is a great place to meet up with friends for a night on the town and it's a good stop while bar hopping. If you are looking for a your 'Cheers' kind of place in Old town Scottsdale, Maloney's is it! But if you are looking for the Scottsdale Scene, I would look in a few other places.
Dress Code: don't show up in cut-offs or overly- casual clothing. It's nightlife in Scottsdale. Not a seed-y Pirate Bar!
We were staying in Surprise, AZ, where there is NO nightlife at all, and decided to drive out to Scottsdale for a night out on the town. It was about a 45 min commute (not fun) but when we got there it was worth it. We decided just to bar hop and ended up at Axis/Radius it is 2 bars in one. its in the heart of Scottsdale, filled with high-energy music, excellent drinks and a cigar bar! the hours were from 10pm-2am and we stayed the whole time!
Bad thing was we drove and the house we rented was 45 min away so we had to pony up the fare of $50 to get home.
I would defiantly recommend it though!
Dress Code: Girls- nice dresses or pant suite
Guys- Nice shirts, no flip flops, and slacks
I LOVED the decor and the atmosphere is defintely above average. Drinks are about average for Scottsdale and it's Arizona's nice attempt at mocking NYC's nightlife as the biz doesn't pick up until about 10:30pm but I was surprised when I saw Barbies in Jeans. Though it was a week day, I wasn't expecting it as I had heard this place was bonafied high quality stuff! And I didn't get the meat market vibe from 6 at all but there seemed to be plenty of Barbies walking around rubbing themselves up against boys who aren't as interested as the girls think they are. But Pardon me for people-watching...
Dress Code: I would suggest trying to be more original than jeans but sequins and tuxes are not cool enough. Be yourself but be nightlife aware.
If you're staying or passing through Phoenix be prepared to go looking for nightlife.
Many of the restaurants are in strip malls along the highways or in the main shopping malls - do some research beforehand so that you have somewhere to aim for rather than relying on going out & finding somewhere.
A lot of the bars are also hidden away are are often attached to a restaurant.
I didn't manage to get to Tempe though which is the student side of town and things may be a little different out there.
I can recomment in Scottsdale though, Mortons for steaks and Island Burger for one of the best burger experiences available anywhere - and I am not exagerating
