    Picazzo’s Gourmet Pizza and Salads

My daughter loves the chicken wings at this place and I, on the other hand, love gourmet pizzas (specially the artichoke loaded pizza). There’s a variety of seven sauces, nine cheeses and 35 toppings. The salads are awesome as well.

  • The Wrigley Mansion Club: Dinner at a Mansion on the Hill

by dshinkle Written Sep 1, 2004

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In 1932, Wrigley Gum founder William Wrigley build an 18,000 sq. foot mansion for his wife on mountain overlooking the small town of Phoenix. He died later that year in one of the bedrooms.

The mansion was purchased by the heir to the Hormel fortune, Geordie Hormel. He has remodeled the home and wants everyone to be able to enjoy it. For less than $50 you can tour the mansion and have an elegant lunch or dinner. Geordie is frequently at the mansion planning piano for the guests on original Steinway.

The mansion overlooks the beautiful Biltmore resort, which as a lot of history of its own (for example, Ronald Reagan spent his honeymoon there and it was designed by Frank Loyd Wright).

To meet zoning regulations, the Mansion is a private club. For $10 a year you can join, which is collected upon entry. You can also skip the mansion tour and just have dinner or lunch (but you will be missing out!!!).

    Michael's: Divine in Scottsdale

by VeronicaG Updated May 4, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Michael's was definitely a cut above most restaurants. As a welcome to the business conference we attended, a group of us were invited to a delightful feast in Scottsdale.

As we entered, each was given a choice or red or white wine, then shown to a breezy little veranda where we conversed and relaxed after a day of travel.

Multiple trays of savory hors d'oeuvres were passed by waiters--the selection was excellent and consisted of chicken or shrimp plus another meat. After a generous amount of time, we were conducted to our tables.

Michael's specializes in American cuisine with an Italian influence. As far as we were concerned, that combination was a hit!

We were served iceberg salad with basil which was marinated in tomatoes with grapes and gorgonzola cheese. Next, I selected the chicken saltimbocca on butter poached fingerling potatoes and peppered bacon, from a choice of three entrees. The repast was sumptuous. Dessert with seasonal creme brulee' with fruit and sorbet ended the meal.

Since we did not pay for the meal, I have no idea what it cost. I would recommend Michael's to anyone if you'd like a touch of romance, fine dining and a wonderful evening.

  • House of Tricks: One of the most romantic restaurants in Phoenix

by dshinkle Written Aug 19, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Mill Ave in Tempe is a small house that is actually one of the valley's best restaurants... House of Tricks.

Surprise your significant other by strolling up 7th street from Mill Ave into this beautiful neighborhood, practically on the ASU campus.

You can sit inside or outside, and if you can, sit outside. You will be eating in a beautiful garden. There is also an outside bar, which is a fun place to sit and meet people.

Make sure you have reservations before having dinner because the place fills up fast. They also serve lunch and they have excellent deserts.

Favorite Dish: The Pan Seared Sea Bass is excellent.

    La FONTANELLA: Wonderful Friendly Ambience!

by ViajesdelMundo Updated Feb 15, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Originally from Chicago, this family restaurant has been in Phoenix area for 26 years, and beeen voted one of the best in the area many times. You are greeted warmly at the door by the Italian owners, the service is top rate, the food gourmet, the setting not often found in new cities such as Phoenix. See their WEBSITE!

Reservations are definitely a good thing, especially on weekend, and your meal should not take less than a couple hours; Continental style.

WE RETURNED a second time on our latest visit to our granddaughter and again everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and food. It was Valentine's weekend, and altho VERY busy, everything was handled beautifully and minimal waiting.

Favorite Dish: Have only eaten here the once, each of us ordered different dishes and all were most delicious; mine was the lamb shank Aglassato,a Sicilian dish and one of their 'Signature Dishes'.

Old and romantic house with vignettes: Restaurant Monti's

    by Maria250 Updated Aug 2, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Restaurant sits in a very nice area & park. Nice ambience. Great fresh salad, steak medium with way too soft and fatty fried fries, nice & cold Budweiser. Over all it was ok yet the waitress that served us was pretty unfriendly, and bothered that we didn't understand her English with extremly heavy accent. Would not necessarily recommend this restaurant though it does look wonderful.

Just the perfect place to start a perfect day with perfect pancakes. What a pleasure! That's the kind of dining places, Germany really lacks of at least for folks like me that simply love pancakes & waffles.

The Capital Grille - Scottsdale: Classy, Romantic, & Steaks Cooked to Perfection!

by SedonaDee Updated Mar 22, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Lovely & terrific restaurant for special occasions. We stopped in without a reservation to celebrate our anniversary. Luckily, they had a table available. They asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and we said it was our anniversary. When we got to the table, there was a red rose petal heart on the table, and the white tablecloth was sprinkled with red confetti hearts. There was also a hand-written anniversary card awaiting us. Such a nice touch when we hadn't even made a reservation!

The service was top-notch, decor was sort of old-world British with dark wood, large historic-looking portraits, and even some game animal heads adorning the walls. You may dine outside or inside. The bar looked inviting and beautiful, but we skipped that as we were seated quickly.

This restaurant is known for its top of the line steaks and they were delicious and cooked perfectly. The wine list is extensive and it would take a couple of days to study it properly. I highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or a romantic night out. You can dress up or go casual. All was acceptable.

Favorite Dish: Even though steaks are what they are famous for and my sirloin steak and my husband's Delmonico steak were superb, I want to say that the New England Clam Chowder was some of the best I've ever had, and I'm truly picky when it comes ot clam chowder. Also, the Caesar salad was excellent with large, thin shavings of Parmesan cheese.

This restaurant is open for lunch or dinner.

Main course selections for dinner were:
-Dry Aged Sirloin Steak - 14 oz.
-Dry Aged Porterhouse Steak - 24 oz.
-Dry Aged Steak au Poivre with Courvoisier Cream - 14 oz.
    -Filet Mignon - 10 to 14 oz
    -Filet Oscar
    -Delmonico Steak - 22 oz.
    -Veal Chop with Roquefort Butter
-Double Cut Lamb Rib Chops (4)
    -Roasted Chicken

There are also nightly specials, of course.

Big City BBQ & Grill: Save room for the Sugar Biscuits

by jsav Written Jul 25, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is the second location for the three owners who appear to have descended from points unknown just to improve the BBQ scene in Phoenix. One owner is from England, came here specifically to start a barbecue restaurant. A second owner is from New York and has a thick Brooklyn accent, and the third is an Executive Chef who grew up in Iowa, the pork capital of the world.

This new location in Mesa is much roomier than the first, has a bar, a nice ambience at night, and great food.

Favorite Dish: All of the barbecue is great, pulled pork and beef brisket top the list. But, whatever you do, don't leave without ordering the sugar buscuits for dessert. I am totally addicted!

Black Forest Haus: Authentic German Meals

by BruceDunning Written Dec 28, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It was fantastic and authentic German fare. The schnitzels range about $13-18, and other specialties are $12-20 price. I also got sausages next door as well as cheese and black bread for $4 a loaf for my daily lunches when hiking. They were all hand made and the bread was super

Favorite Dish: The Bauren Schmaus was great, and plentiful for sure. The Germans do not get stingy on serving sizes. This was roast pork, smoked pork and beef roulade. Side dumplings and bread are for me. Price was $15

Wy Knot Cafe: Award winning French Toast!

by blueskyjohn Updated May 5, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Wy Knot is in an area with several restaurants that are either converted from houses or just box type small buildings. Nondescript, whole in the wall with great food. They do have some outdoor seating in front and the interior is nicely decorated with painting from local artist. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive.

Favorite Dish: I had the Stuffed French Toast. Amazing! They hand roll cinnamon into the dough before baking the bread. The slices are nearly 3 inches thick. Then it is stuffed with their home made cream cheese and topped off with slices of banana. If you're want a decadent breakfast this is a must!

    U. S. EGG: Don't Miss the PROTEIN PANCAKES

by ViajesdelMundo Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Great place for a small group brunch on Sunday. Plain decor, but good food, very full plates, lots of choices. Service is fast but if there is a short wait, as we had, there is a coffee pot available to pour your own.

    Hours: 7 days a week; 6:30am - 2:30pm

Favorite Dish: One of their specialties is whole wheat pancakes that are filled with blueberries as well as granola, cinnamon and almonds. OR, you can just have a 'half order' of pancakes together with a half order of a specialty casserole; I had the one with chorizo, potatoes, tomatoes !!

Tapas Restaurant Scottsdale: Tapas Restaurant Scottsdale

    by lashr1999 Written Mar 3, 2006

Inside the Restaurant are banquettes in faux suede, artificial flowers and red colorations. We sat on one of the cozy outside tables to sample some of the Spanish food. I ordered a dish of pork flavored with pears which comes with choriza and potatoes. My mother ordered one of the fish dishes. The service was excellent, the water was filled. I had asked that I be served the dessert first and it was brought out right away. I opted for the fried ice cream. I am not sure if it was fried but it is ice cream covered in chopped nuts. It was excellent and a nut lovers dream. The main courses were good. My mother enjoyed her dish as I did mine. The pork would have been bland if it was offered alone. However, the choriza punched it up a bit and complemented it.

Favorite Dish: The fried Ice cream!

FEZ: HIP CUISINE, FOOD, DRINKS, MUSIC

by queencreekfreak Written Mar 14, 2006

Fez has a modern ambience, hip music, cool atmosphere. Excellent food and great martini and wine list. I recently had lunch with some colleagues at this hip eatery. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was fantastic. One of my co-workers had a lovely strawberry/blueberry almond salad that looked totally tasty. I myself enjoyed the Casablanca Chicken Sandwich - grilled checken breasts, pomegranate vinaigrette, goat cheese, sliced pears, dried cherries and field greens on ciabatta. It was awsome. We shared some excellent Kisra Bread with garlicky hummus, also great. We will definitely return. Now I want to go there for happy hour.

Favorite Dish: Loved the Casablanca Chicken Sandwich. It had an excellent taste and the dried cherries added a wonderful tartness that complimented the other ingredients.
