The Phoenix Museum of Art hosts an impressive collection of American, Asian, Latin American, and Modern art in a showroom area encompassing more than 160,000 square feet. More than one thousand works of art out of its vast collection of 16,000 are displayed at a given time, and video presentations about the Museum collection enhance the visit. Many of the nation?s top traveling exhibitions make a stop at the Phoenix Art Museum, and works by such artists as Van Gogh, Picasso, and El Greco appear from time to time.

If you happen to be in Phoenix on a Tuesday, check out the Art Museum - it's free on Tuesdays and the closing hour is 9 PM.

I did, and was impressed by the collection of paintings and sculptures. The current exhibit was "Cowboy".

  • Visiting the Phoenix Art Museum

by kaysunshine Written Sep 5, 2011

The Phoenix Art Museum was a day well spent. The atmosphere was inviting and it was like around every corner was a surprise waiting to be discovered. Admission was free for me. How you may ask? Our local library has cultural passes for various museums, try checking out your library next time you go. The museum was inexpensive adventure that took me across the world.
All the different exhibits kept me intrigued and interested. There were paintings, drawings, photography, and sculptures galore. There were even some animated pieces. I even stumbled upon a piece you could actually walk through. The layout of the museum is very easy to follow, as they give you a map and everything is labeled. You can go from the Asian culture, to English within a matter of feet. It is mind blowing. The whole world seems so much smaller, and it’s brought together so beautifully.
They offer guided tours, or you can walk around by yourself. There is also a children’s section to the museum. I have nothing bad to say about the museum itself. I am extremely happy that I went, and would recommend that anyone go. It would be a great date, or family day, or even a day by yourself. The Phoenix Art Museum is a place that I think everyone should visit while in Phoenix. It will really open up your eyes and make you think. Definitely go and experience the culture Arizona has to offer.

    PRICELESS ART COLLECTION

by jumpingnorman Updated Feb 20, 2013

February 2013 Just a few weekends ago, I was wondering what to do with the kids when a friend from Facebook told me about the free entrance to the Phoenix Museum for Bank of America cardholders on the first weekends of every month! Awesome! Time to visit the museum then!

My wife and I were free because we has Bank of America cards, and we just paid for the tickets of our young twins. The tickets are not expensive:
Adults $15 Senior Citizens $12 Students (with ID) $10 Children (Ages 6-17) $6

They also have free days! Free Admission Times:
Wednesday 3-9pm First Fridays 6-10pm First friday of every month.

You can see wonderful art! With more than 17,000 works of American, Asian, European, Latin American, Western American, modern and contemporary art, and fashion design...

At the time we went, there was a painting from Claude Monet, amazing Mexican art and the twins specially enjoyed the miniature artworks (little miniature doll-house like sets).

The restuarant is also very good and you should try their salad:) After eating, you can walk around the garden at the back where they have some interesting statues. As of 2013, they are also building this huge theatre just beside the Museum.

This Museum has been around for 50 years and continues to grow.

The Phoenix Art Museum is small for a city its size but still has a decent collection. It located just north of Downtown.
