Two of the best spots to party on the notorious (in the old days) Whiskey Row are the Bird Cage and the Jersey Lilly.

Matt's Saloon: Western Bar

Matt's Saloon is one of the most historic bars in Arizona. It's a honky tonk bar with live music almost every night. The place is pretty packed on the weekend. They sure know how to pour a stiff drink as well. Bring your bras to donate to the bull, and don't forget your cowboy hats. Oh and ask about the underground tunnel linking all the bars on whiskey row.

Dress Code: Anything goes. You're sure to see a lot of cowboys on the weekend, so if you're not one, dress like one and I'm sure you'll fit in.

Almost Full

Due to the elevation of Prescott and the relatively low light pollution as compared to metropolitan areas, you can turn your gaze upward at night and see a variety of celestial bodies. Prescott has a local astronomy club that meets usually on specific Saturday evenings each month. Many club members bring their own personal telescopes, including a television-monitor-based one, where even the visually impaired or those who simply have trouble lining their eye to the small lens on a traditional telescope, can see on a 13 inch monitor, the desired objects. Things like the Ring Nebula look fantastic on this setup.

Dress Code: In the summer, bring a light sweater. In the winter and fall months, a heavier coat is necessary and, for me, gloves too!

Prescott Brewing Company: prescott's brewery

Prescott Brewing Company was recommended to me as a beer stop.
I had their IPA and Porter, both of which weren't overly impressive. I was also offered a taste of their Belgian Dubbel with the pretext from the bartender "It starts out nice, but then it tastes like sh**" It wasn't very good.
The establishment has a nice atmosphere and is right on the courthouse square, with a couple of windowside tables. Wood floors, and an adequate, but overly large interior. I came at 3pm on a Saturday and both the bar and restaurant were fairly busy. The crowd is a mix of tourists and regulars, most of whom are at the bar.
The beer runs $4, but the nightly Happy Hour offers 2 for 1. I didn't eat anything, but was offered a menu upon sitting at the bar. The food was reasonably priced.
Growlers available. Bottles also available for take-away.

Fireworks and Moonlight

Okay, so it only happens once a year, but it does happen at night. Hence, the category nightlife seemed most fitting. But the fireworks here don't always happen every year due to the fire danger and the level of predisposing drought. I'm glad they did this year. The temperature was perfect. No mosquitos were about. It was a beautiful setting to see the displays against the backdrop of the moon.
