The Mesquite Tree: Sierra Vista: The Mesquite Tree

by Jacquelynn

When I lived in Sierra Vista, this was the place to eat if you wanted a special meal. The Mesquite Tree is noted for it's tasty variety of meat, seafood, and pasta, all with lots of flavorful spice. If it's nice out, request to sit on the patio.

Chee's: Road Side Deliciousness

by DueSer

This is a Navajo owned and operated roadside stand just off Interstate 40. There are a lot of road side stands just off the interstate but this is the only one I stop at every single time and actually look forward to seeing. There is a shop, which has low priced and high quality Native American arts & crafts, but the real draw for me is the little shack next door to the shop. They serve fry bread (if you've read some of my other tips I'm sure you've figured out that I have a thing for fry bread) and it is some of the best I've ever tasted, which is what keeps me coming back again and again. The trick is catching it when it's open. The shop is open long, regular hours. The fry bread shack is open when the lady who runs it is available. She goes to church on Sundays and other times I'm not sure why it isn't open. If you arrive and it's closed, just go inside and inquire. They always know if...

The Fry Bread House: Heavenly Local Cuisine

by DueSer

This is a little hole in the wall place that you might easily drive by without giving a second thought but missing out on a meal here would be a sad mistake.Owned and run by local Native Americans of the Tohono O'odham tribe, the setting is simple but comfortable. The focus is definitely on the food. They serve tacos with fry bread instead of crunchy corn shells or flour tortillas and they are terrific. The fry bread isn't greasy. I don't think I've ever had fry bread that wasn't greasy. It's amazing. They also serve stews and burritos but the fry bread tacos are the specialty of the house. Indian taco or the ground beef combo taco - both of these come with refried beans, cheddar cheese and lettuce. The ground beef combo taco also comes with beef. They're all good - filling without leaving you completely stuffed, and all ingredients are clearly fresh.

Yoshimatsu: Incredibly authentic daily Japanese

by rebower

Confortable and friendly atmosphere wait for customers at this pay-before-eat Japanese restaurant. There are two separate rooms, one for sushi and the other one for everything you can imagine is served on Japan (except shabu-shabu).You can try from green tea cheesecake to nato for very affordable prices and do some shopping at their little shop located in the restaurant.

Sugar Bowl: Don't know what extra lucious means but I want it.

La Olive: Keep going - others better

by Chuck0

For a restaurant that has had so much acclaim, it was a real let down. Service was excellent, but if I wanted semi-tasteless food I would go to taco-hell and spend a lot less. There is a definite difference in ambiance from the front rooms to the back rooms. Nice upscale to the hole in the back. Reserve early - if you want - but be sure to request being upfront. So much more lively. If I want quaintness, I'll go down the street. None

Flo's Asian Restaurant: Asian Food with a nice spin

by Chuck0

We thought the food was well prepared, served appropriately. Nice setting - it could be a nice place to take someone special or a family meal. I think a nice semi-romantic meal is perfect here. you know beyond the "I need to show them I can pick a fancy restaurant", you know your food, good food, and where to find it without spending a huge amount of money. It does have a bar - eh, yeah whatever. I don't care about that. Nice, but really... I had the Indian Vindaloo Chicken - It was very nice. I would definitely order it again. We also had the green curry - not as coconutty as we've had before - good, but not as memorable. The yakisoba noodles tasted burnt. The Pad Thai was also unmemorable. To save this - the appetizer - Thai Lettuce cups was very nice and tasty. Waitress was pleasant. On Mondays and Tuesdays you can order lunch at dinner - paying lunch prices. Three of us did that - so...

Frank and Lupe's in Old Town Scottsdale: What was that?

by Chuck0

A very nice - what seems to be a Mom and Pop operation. They use NM chili's so what can be wrong with that? I like Mole sauce, so I typically try it - which I did here also. We also had the chicken with green sauce - something very different - like a soupy avacado with chili in it. Somewhat spicy, nothing like I was hoping, but very good none the less. I would definetly order it again. The Margarita purchased was the house margarita - nothing special - but at least there was some tequlia in it. Soda was a little expensive - but bottomless - use that to your advantage if your really thristy. Locals come and go. Nice place - old school. On Marshall, near 3rd street. Not a luxury place though - dress casual - very casual! The trolly runs through old town. Give it a try also since it is free and you might want to beat the heat for a bit. So far the chicken Mole was nice, but the other chick...

Oak Creek Brewery & Grill: cheesy pretzel sauce worth the stop alone

by richiecdisc

We had to drive a wee bit off the main highway to go to Oak Creek Brewing but it was right in Sedona which had to be a beautiful place to attract all of those beautiful people to it, right? Well, it was a stunning sight despite all the traffic. We hadn't seen this many people since we left Florida three weeks earlier. It was like someone had turned on the people faucet and cars were pouring out of it. Parking was crazy and expensive so was happy to find the brewpub in a cute little village type strip mall. It wasn't easy to find a spot there but at least it was free once I did! The pub itself was a bit upscale but once seated at the bar it felt like an outdoorsy tourist town bar and the bartender was amicable and helpful with local tips. I suddenly could see myself paying $5 to park, hiking all day, hitting the sauna, and eating a nice big meal in here, washing the whole day down with...
