Coyote Springs Brewing & Cafe: looks like this baby is now closed

by richiecdisc

On a solo trip in 1995 I was looking to move perhaps to Phoenix. Of course, I had to scope out the local breweries and this one was a nice old time style bar located in a strip mall on the outskirts of town. The brewpub business is highly competitive and not all of them last. This one evidently bit the dust between my visit and now but keep this tip as a memory of the beer I had on that occasion in another time. Luckily, there are much better places now such as Nimbus in Tuscon and Oak Creek in Sedona. The food was typical pub grub but as I hazily remember their Toby Stout wasn't half bad. The photo is of Oak Creek Brewing in Sedona.

Oak Creek Brewing Company: drinking at the source

by richiecdisc

While talking to the bartender at the Oak Creek Brewery & Grill, he told us about the actual brewery just up the road that would have the Hefeweizen on tap if we wanted to try it. The only catch was it didn't open until 4 that afternoon and it was only about 2:30. After searching the supermarkets in vain for the elusive weissbier, we went to the brewery. It was a real local's place with a cool little beer garden that had great red rock views. We had the Hefeweizen which was a bit low on carbonation for the style but otherwise a perfect honey comb hued unfiltered Bavarian style wheat beer with nice banana clove palate and yeasty overtones. The Marzen was an amber and all too sweet interpretation of the style. It was a great little place but one I should have given a pass on considering we were not going to stay in town and still have quite a bit of driving to do that day.

The Luchia Restaurant: The best homemade apple and pecan pie

by joiwatani

This is one of the best road side restaurant ever! Make sure that when you are travelling from Phoenix going to Sedona, make sure to stop by at this restaurant to taste their home made pecan and apple pies! They are truly delicious! What is very amazing about this restaurant is that it actually has a very beautiful backyard that looks like you are in an oasis! There are tall, dark green lushed palm trees and cacti. The shade is truly relaxing, topped that with the cool breezed after a hot sunny day in the Arizona desert! The backyard has a beautiful pond filled with different colorful kois. My children truly enjoyed feeding the kois! (Please watch my videos feeding the kois). Then there is a coop for the spectacular peacocks. Some are actually free grazing to the green grass garden. The restaurant also has a jewelry shop. They sell different kinds of Indian jewelry handcrafted by local...

Al & Diane's Red Onion: burger stop in central AZ

by kastoriani

Not much in terms of decor. Half the place is like a bar and the other half is a large carpeted area with a huge TV screen and booths and tables. If you're traveling through the area it's a good place for a quick, solid bite. There are not many options around there anyway. Most of the customers seemed to be locals. The waitress went straight to the point and got the job done well and efficiently. Burger.

Cameron Trading Post Restaurant: absolutely disappointing

by vtveen

When staying in the Cameron Trading Post Grand Canyon Hotel you ‘have’ to have dinner in their own restaurant. It is located behind a huge souvenir store (the ‘old’ trading post) and because the restaurant was crowded we had to wait before seated (no problem, we were on holiday). Location: inside the Cameron Trading Post.Staff: not too friendly and helpful, but I suppose that’s the Navajo culture. Service was not efficient and we had to wait long for our food.Inside: restaurant is huge, has more or less outdated furniture and a metalled ceiling. There is a lot of noise when the staff is cleaning tables and guests are coming and going for their dinner. All together not very cosy and without atmosphere. Food: my wife had a mixture of Mexican food - Combination Plate - and this was the worst she had during our trip in the USA; especially the meat was terrible. My Fried Chicken was not that...

Junction Restaurant: Navajo style and service

by vtveen

I think there are just two sit-down restaurants in Chinle (besides some ‘fast foods’). One of them is the Junction Restaurant, adjacent and belonging to the Best Western Canyon de Chelly Inn. Location: next to the Best Western Canyon de Chelly InnStaff: not too friendly and charming, but I suppose that’s the Navajo culture. Service is quite good.Inside: restaurant is clean, not very cosy and rather big. It lacks a kind of character. Food: they serve almost everything one can want: Navajo, Mexican, pizza and American. We had a Seafood Combo Platter (fried fish, fries and salad), which was satisfying.Be aware Chinle is Navajo country and it is not allowed to serve alcohol and we had to drink lemonade after a long and hot day. We paid USD 21,- for the main menu, which was very cheap !!

Mesa Restaurante Italiana: basic Italian food

by vtveen

There is not much choice for restaurants in Holbrook. We had read some rather good reviews and also the lady from the reception in our motel recommended it, so we decided to have dinner in Mesa Restaurante Italiana. During our visit - early in the evening - it was rather busy and we were happy to get a table. Location: Mesa Italiana is located more or less in a kind of ‘no man’s land’, at least two miles from Holbrook and about 0,5 mile from our Super 8 motel. Staff: friendly and helpful; good service.Inside: a little bit disappointing, but appropriate for this area.Food: classic Italian food; we had lasagne and spaghetti and both were good. This was our first real American dinner and we enjoyed the basic setting. The food was (at least for us) extremely cheap, although a glass of wine was much more expensive. All together we just paid USD 37,50 (tip included).

O'Malley's Bar and Grill: Eat, Drink, and Meet People in Tucson

by Basaic

O'Malley's is a bar and grill located on the corner of 4th Avenue and 8th Street. They serve all types of drinks including Jose Cuervo Margaritas on tap, and typical bar and grill food. I only had a drink so I cannot testify as to the quality of the food. The decor is sports and alcohol related. They have big screen TVs tuned to sports (and strangely enough Dr. Phil). They also have 4 nice pool tables. The staff was friendly and the girl behind the bar was cute. It is located in the popular 4th Avenue Section of Tucson. I paid $1.75 for a large I did not eat here; just drank and met new people.

Maya Quetzal Restaurant: Guatemalan Food in Tucson

by Basaic

The Maya Quetzal was my first time eating at a Guatemalan Restaurant. They had a variety of chicken, pork, and beef dishes along with some appetizers and soups. I had the Longaniza which is a pork sausage stuffed with ground pork, onions, jalapenos, mint and other spices. It was pretty tasty, and was served with rice, refried beans and a salad. The refried beans were not what you are used to getting with your Mexican Food. They were made with black beans, and had a stronger taste. They serve alcohol. The decor in the restaurant consisted of paintings, photos and handicrafts from Guatemala. It is located in the popular 4th Avenue Section of Tucson. Worth a visit. I had the Longaniza which is a pork sausage stuffed with ground pork, onions, jalapenos, mint and other spices. It was pretty tasty, and was served with rice, refried beans and a salad. Maloney's Tavern: Great Place to Eat and Meet in Tucson

by Basaic

Maloney's is one of the best places to go on 4th Avenue for fun, music, and to meet people. They serve sandwiches, sliders, quesadillas, and burgers; but mostly people come here to drink and meet new people. It is located in the popular 4th Avenue Section of Tucson. Very popular hangout for U of A students. Try the Fiji Chicken Sandwich a blackened chicken breast with an avocado slice, tomato, onion, bean sprouts, muenster cheese, and jalapeno mustard, for $8.95.
