The Grand Cafe: Say Hi to Marilyn in Douglas

by Basaic

The Grand Cafe serves Mexican and American Food. They have daily specials. There is a nice marble topped bar. They serve beer and wine. The music they played was Mexican and most of the clientele the day I was there spoke Spanish. The service was good. Many people come here for the over 200 photographs and other displays about Marilyn Monroe. It all started years ago when the owner put up a couple of photos. Friends and customers started sending her more photos and other items and the collection grew to the pont that it dominates the restaurant. Hours are 11 AM to 8 PM Monday through Thursday; 11 AM to 9 PM on Friday and 12 PM to 9 PM on Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. I was not hungry and just stopped for a Sprite. A big glass for 1.09.

Nellie Cashman's: Better Than Most in Tombstone

by Basaic

Tombstone is not a place full of restaurants serving great food. In this environment, I would rate Nellie Cashman's above average. They serve steak, chicken, seafood, mexican dishes, pasta, and a variety of sandwiches and salads. The service was okay but not great. The cashier was nice and friendly, though. The most interesting thing about the restaurant is the history of the first owner (when it was called the Russ Restaurant) Nellie Cashman (see my things to do tip). I had a grilled cheese sandwich and Albondigas Soup. The sandwich was about what you would expect, the soup was very good.

Miner's Shack: Going Downhill in Tombstone

by Basaic

The Miner's Shack Cafe is what became of the Top O' the Hill Restaurant when it came under new ownership. It is located on Highway 80 across from Boothill (is it a good idea to locate your restaurant by a cemetery?). They serve steak, chicken, shrimp, chops, BBQ ribs, and have daily specials. I had a meatloaf sandwich and it was pretty good; but the food and service is not as good as it was as the Top O' the Hill. I miss Don Teodoro's, now THAT was good food.

Plaza Restaurant: Good Food Big Portions in Willcox

by Basaic

The Plaza Restaurant is co-located with a Chevron Station. The decor is like a diner with Formica and metal. The food, however, is better than the surroundings might suggest. Portions are large too. Our waitress was attractive and attentive. She was a little distracted though. I think this was because she was at the end of her shift. I had the liver and onions with mashed potatos and peas. Very good and plenty of it.

Nob Hill Gourmet Market and Fine Dining: Expensive Food in Tubac

by Basaic

This place has a touch of San Francisco and an ld world menu. There is also a market with fresh produce, a deli, take-out items, and gourmet items from around the world. If you have a taste for something different, give it a try, but bring your wallet it is not cheap. I did not eat here this trip; but may in the future.

Artist's Palate: Fine Food in Tubac

by Basaic

The Artist's Palate serves lunch and dinner. The menu includes steak, seafood, pizza, and sandwiches. They also have televised sporting events, a private dining room, and carryout service. Cocktails are available. Hours are 11:30 AM to 9 PM, 7 days a week. I did not eat here this trip but plan to try it on a future visit. I've heard it's very good.

Tip Photo
OK Cafe: Food to Avoid in Tombstone

by Basaic

The OK Cafe offers breakfast: Consisting of pancakes; french toast; omelets; eggs and other fare; and lunch consisting of burgers (to include emu, veggie and buffalo burgers) sandwiches; soup; hot dogs; salads and chili. Hours are 7 AM to 2 PM daily. I ordered chili and had to take an antacid afterwards, not because of any spiciness to the chili but because it was that bad. I don't plan to return.

Tip Photo
Margie's Corner Cafe: Cafe in Pearce

by Basaic

Margie's is a fairly small place in the Sunsites portion of Pearce-Sunsites. The decor is an odd mixture of southwest cowboy; antiques and art. There is a tiny room with paintings for sale of the dining area. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner and the fare is typical of the area. Omelets, eggs and bacon, pancakes etc for breakfast. Soups, sandwiches, fried chicken, fish for lunch; and steak, chicken, and pasta for dinner. The waitress was friendly. I had two eggs, with bacon, and hash browns. It was okay; but not great.

The Gathering Grounds: Espresso, Ice Cream and Health Food in Patagonia

by Basaic

The Gathering Grounds is a combination coffeeshop, ice cream parlor, deli, and restaurant. They have the usual breakfast fare plus a Veggie Bagel for the health concious. Lunch tends toward soup and sanwiches with a number of healthy items. They also have a soup and a sandwich of the day. It is open 7 days a week from 7 AM to 5 PM. They also serve dinner from 6 PM to 8 PM Firday and Saturday. I had the Acorn Squash with Nuts Soup. It was pretty good and very healthy.

Arizona Family restaurant: Family Restaurant in Green Valley

by Basaic

The Arizona Family Restaurant serves steak, chicken, fish (including baked cod), liver and onions, and pasta dishes. They have daily dinner specials after 3PM. Clientele was mostly older people with a few younger ones mixed in. As you can see in photo 2, they really decorated for Christmas. There is a small bar called Easy Street attached to the restaurant. I had the baked Cod. It was well prepared, but the portions were small.
