Horse Shoe Cafe: Good Food, Pretty Waitresses in Benson

by Basaic

The Horse Shoe Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast fare includes omelets, eggs, ham, and pancakes. The decor is typical southwestern. Service was attentive and the waitresses were very cute. I did not see the menu for lunch or dinner but the sign advertised steak and spirits. The cafe was established in 1936. It is open from 7 AM to 8 PM. I had two eggs with some very good home fries and toast. Good coffee too.

Rodney's: Down Home Food in Willcox

by Basaic

The decor of Rodney's is like the owner; no frills, no gimmicks, just simple down home style. It looks like what you would see at a family reunion or a church social (except for the pictures of entertainers and the obligatory Rex Allen memorabilia). I sat at the new Rodney's Annex; there is also a patio out back. I had to follow Rodney back to the kitchen to order. When I asked for a soda he pointed out the side door to a cooler and said, "help yourself". I felt like I was back home, like a member of the family. The food was also very down home. I had chicken and sausage gumbo. It was well prepared with a distinct flavor and strongly spiced with black pepper. Other offerings include: barbecued pork sandwiches and plates of ribs, shrimp, and catfish. I really enjoyed the food and the relaxing atmosphere. Since it was an unusual time to eat 3 PM, I was the only patron. After eating and...

Sunsites Country Cafe: Very Nice Small Town Cafe in Sunsites

by Basaic

The Sunsites Country Cafe, which is located in the town of Pearce not Sunsites, is a small family run cafe near the entrance to Cochise Stronghold. After a hard day of walking around the stronghold it is a nice place to stop for something to eat or drink. The cafe has paintings on the wall and a typical southwestern decor. The menu is more extensive than the usual small town diner and includes: Various breakfast items; rib eye steak; meatloaf; chicken; catfish; cod; shrimp; pizza; burgers; Italian specialties like Chicken Parmesan; and various types of pasta. They also have a daily special. Service was excellent and the people running the place are very friendly. Hours are 6:30 AM to 3 PM Monday and Tuesday; 6:30 AM to 8 PM Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; and 8 AM to 2 PM on Sunday. They are closed on Friday. I had meatloaf with Texas Toast, mashed potatos, and mixed vegetables. It...

El Conquistador: Great Ambience, Average Food in Douglas

by Basaic

El Conquistador is part of the Hotel Gadsden and boasts impressive old world architecture and design. There is a very nice tile mural on one wall. The decor and ambience makes you expect a great dining experience. The menu is varied including steak, chicken, ribs, and a variety of seafood including many types of fish, shrimp, and lobster. The service is excellent. Unfortunately, the food was kind of average. I did like their grilled Tilapia pretty well but I expected better. You might want to just look around or order coffee here and eat elsewhere. The Grilled Tilapia was a little above average.

Tip Photo
Tiger Den Cafe: Small Town Cafe in Saint David

by Basaic

The decor in the Tiger Den Cafe includes lots of paintings of tigers, tiger figurines and lots of coffee cups hanging from the walls and rafters. It appears to be a small family run place. The food is mostly breakfast, soups and chili, sandwiches (to include burgers and hot dogs), and shrimp, chicken and catfish baskets. Service was attentive and polite. Hours are 8 AM to 4 PM Tuesday through Friday; AM to 4 PM Saturday and Sunday. They are closed on Mondays. I had the Catfish basket served with fries and coleslaw. Pretty good. Portions were good too.

Lone Star Cafe: Smalltown Cafe in Hereford

by Basaic

The Lone Star Cafe offers breakfast and lunch and is open from 6 AM to 2 PM daily. Decor tends toward Southwestern with animal skulls, spurs, and western style paintings. Food is typical breakfast fare, sandwiches, soups, chili, fried chicken and fried cod. Other than the "Veggie Omelet" there is nothing heart friendly on the menu. The fair was okay; but the portions were a little small. $7.50 for fried cod with some French fries and a very small portion of Cole slaw. The waitress/hostess was very friendly. I was the only customer she did not know by name. The fried cod was okay; but the portions were kind of small.

The Alley Cafe: Good Filling Food in Bisbee

by Basaic

The Alley Cafe is a tiny place located down an alley in Bisbee. It specializes in good filling food. It has things like ribs, hotdogs, hamburgers, sandwiches and meatloaf. I had what they call a meatloaf sundae which is a slab of meatloaf topped by a scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy. They also had something called a belly bomb which was a slab of meatloaf topped with chili and cheese. Thay also serve wine and beer. Open daily except Tuesday and Wednesday. You can order/eat inside or out. I opted for outside to savor the Arizona weather. The meatloaf sundae, which is a slab of meatloaf topped by a scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy, was good. I also had a can of Barq's Rootbeer.

Miss Saigon Vietnamese Restaurant: Vietnamese Food in Tucson

by Basaic

There is little seating capacity and limited ambience in this restaurant near the university. The food, however, is very good. The food is Vietnamese, and includes a vegetarian section for those feeling health conscious. Since it is near the university, there are a lot of students coming here. Take out from Miss Saigon is also very popular. Miss Saigon serves lunch and dinner and is open from 10:30 AM to 9:30 PM Monday through Saturday and 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM on Sunday. They also serve a drink like a smoothie along with beer and wine. Even when the place is crowded, the service is quick and friendly. I recommend it. Photo(s) soon. I had the Chicken Breast and Catfish with egg noodles soup which was quite good. $6.99 for a large bowl.

Tip Photo
Caffe O Le: Gather at Caffe O Le in Sierra Vista

by Basaic

Caffe O-Le is open from 6 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday and 6 AM to 3 PM Sunday. It has been voted best place for breakfast, lunch and to sit and have coffee numerous times since 1995. I had breakfast there with a friend one recent Saturday. My ham and cheese omelet was good but not great. The hash browns were good. Portions were more than adequate. Service was a little slow and sporadic; but they were very busy so that was understandable. Caffe O Le is very popular for a weekend breakfast so you may have to wait for a seat. The breakfast was pretty good.

The Junction Restaurant: Great Food in Chinle

by Basaic

The menu at The Junction Restaurant has a huge variety of food. They have local specialties like Navajo Burgers and other types of food. I had fish and it was great. My friend Brian and I enjoyed it so much we returned for breakfast. I had a Southwestern Omelet. Portions were big enough that we did not go hungry. The staff was efficient and friendly. I will DEFINITELY return to this restaurant on my next trip in the area.
