Abundant Choices in Sedona Area
Sedona is an outdoor lover's paradise. Besides the obvious hiking, there are several other sports's activities such as:
Rainbow Trout fishing. Fishing is allowed anywhere on public property bordering Oak Creek if you have a State License! The Creek is stocked with non-native rainbow trout all year.
Swimming is possible in Oak Creek but better at Grasshopper Point, which is just off State Route 89A between Mileposts 376 and 377. Perhaps the most fun swimming is at the ever-popular Slide Rock State Park.
Hot-air balloon riding is another choice and a great way to view this spectacular area.
One of the most popular sports is biking. Fat-tired bikes are the ones made for the terrain of this area. The best biking is on the Secret Trail system which starts at the Midgley Bridge in Oak Creek Canyon, the Cockscomb in west Sedona, and Broken Arrow off Morgan Road.
For less experienced bikers, you can use the new wide-shouldered, four-lane State Route 89A that connects Sedon and Cottonwood. It's smooth and has grand views of the mountains and deserts and is about 20 miles in length.
Rock Climbing is for experts only here in the Red Rock area. The Kaibab (red) and Coconino (tan) sandstone is soft and crumbles easily.
Equipment: It depends on the activity. But whichever activity you select, make sure you wear a hat, good shoes or boots, proper attire, sunscreen, and always take plenty of water.Related to:
