    Viaggio Italiano: Italian Cuisine

by Africancrab Written May 4, 2013

If you are in the mood for Italian food while in Sonoita, there is no better place than Viaggio. well it is the only Italian restaurant, so you have just this one choice. You will however not be disappointed as the food is delectable.

Since Sonoita has a few vineyards, the restaurant has a great selection of local as well as imported wines. The food is outstanding especially the pasta dishes.

    The Steak Out Restaurant: Steak

by Africancrab Written May 4, 2013

The Steak Out's reputation preceeds it. People go there expecting heaven and sometimes get disappointed. I can remember only one time that I thought the food was rather mediocre, and that is because they had changed their chief chef. It is definitely a place in the desert to consider if you find yourself in these parts of the wood

The prices are on the expensive side because they are almost a monopoly in this area, not many restaurants serve what they serve (well there are not many restaurants in Sonoita anyway). Their BBQ ribs and steak are definitely great, served with fresh fries and a salad. Their rib eye steak goes for $24.00 and the Prime rib is $28.00. The drinks are reasonably priced though. But for a one time experience, it might be worth spending the money if you have it.

I love their baked potatoes served with butter and sour cream and a side order of red beans is delicious.

Over the weekends you will find it crowded with bikers from different parts especially Phoenix.

    Cuisine: Great American Barbecue

    Style: Casual/ country western

    Price: Expensive

    Grasslands Cafe: German Food

by Africancrab Written May 4, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a German owned and run Cafe/ bakery in Sonoita. Great place to have the taste of Germany in the desert, the husband and wife owners take delicate care of their small cafe and prepare the rare taste of German food while complimenting it with great baking. They have a range of whole grain breads and cakes that they bake daily and their sour dough is something to savor. My daughter loves their croissants and cinnamon rolls (I love the fact that the sugar in them is minimal, European styled).

Now this is not one of those cafes that open daily, in fact you would have to call in for hours. In 2008 when I last ate there, their operating hours were 10:00 am - 3:00 pm on Thursday through Saturday, quite limited hours if you ask me. I have eaten here more than five times and each time is an experience of it's own. My favorite meal was and is the Vegetarian sauerkraut with Swiss cheese and mustard. Not just any mustard, original German mustard wrapped in a thin pastry crust. This whole delicious meal is at a cost of $15.00

Their prices are average to expensive so don't expect anything in the $5.00 range to satisfy your hunger. But most of their soft beverages are under $5.00.

    Great Sandwiches: The Cafe

by Africancrab Written May 4, 2013

Formerly known as the Sonoita cafe, the restaurant came under new management and is now called The Cafe. It is one of the better alternatives to going to the steakhouse. My family normally goes to lunch after church service at Sonoita Bible church.

I love the sandwiches; my favorite is the steak and mushroom sandwich. on other occasions I will have Pasta with Alfredo sauce, rarely do I add chicken.

    Great place to eat.

La Vista de Sonoita: Great Mexican Food

by Basaic Updated Feb 19, 2008

The Mexican Food in this restaurant is some of the best I have had in this area. La Vista de Sonoita also has a nice selection of wine, including some from the local growing area. The rear seating section also has a great view of the Santa Rita Mountains. Service was friendly and efficient. Chef Stephen Adams, who moved here from New Orleans after Katrina, adds special spices and flavors to the dishes. This is a MUST STOP if you are in the area. La Vista de Sonoita is open from 10 AM to 3 PM for Brunch and 11:30 AM to 3 PM on weekdays. Dinner is offered each night from 5 PM to 8:30 PM. The restaurant closed on Tuesdays.

Favorite Dish: I had a very good Mexican Combo Platter.
