We just arrived home from this major mall in Tempe where you will find great entertainment venues like Gameworks (my son did not want to leave playing all the video games!), and also a huge movie theatre with IMAX movies (on the Grand canyon, Dinosaurs, and Under the Sea).
The food court itself is filled with great choices which include the Paradise Bakery which has our favourite chocolate-chip cookies. And right in the middle of the food court is a HUGE CAROUSEL for the kids, for only $2 per ride.
Aeropostale, Amercan Eagle Outfitters, Kenneth Cole Outlet Store, Tommy Hilfiger and saks Fifth Avenue are just some of the shop names you will find here.
And as for dining experiences - Claim Jumper, Rainforest Cafe, Garcia's -- need I say more? There's even a favourite Filipino bakery here called The Red Ribbon!
Just a perfect place to spend some time when in Tempe!

There are all kinds of shops in the Mills Avenue District. The area supports what the students at a large university might want, i.e., trendy clothing, furniture, books, etc. It is not as touristy as Old Scottsdale but does have that element and there are many souvenir shops.
Arizona Mills is a large regional mall in Tempe. It has many retail and outlet stores. No problem to spend your money in a place like this. There is also an IMAX theatre.
So you're walking down Mill and there's nothing worth while going into. I know you don't want to shop at Abercrombie, American Apparel, or Barnes and Noble. Well please stop by one of the last independently run shops on this street. It's run by an old couple who are some of the nicest people I have run into. These people are so wonderful I love going in there just to say hello to them. So stop in say hello and maybe you'll find a great deal on a used book too!
If you go there, you have to buy some T-Shirt or other stuff from ASU! There are so cool!
Ok my preference is for the basketball stuff but I think you can find anything you what there.
What to pay: Well, the T-Shirt are from 10 to 30 dollars, but look at the promotion (-25% / -50%...)

Tempe does have an REI. Very convenient to Phoenix and less than 10 minutes from Sky Harbor Airport.
What to pay: On average with most Outdoor stores. It's better if you become a member to get discounts
