Located in the center of town, these 5 acre gardens are marvelous. Here you can see various kinds of desert plants including cacti and flowering shrubbery. Birds and Butterflies are in abundance amongst the foliage and there is plenty of shade. A visit here of an hour or 2 is definitely worth the time if your into horticulture, nature or just looking for a pleasant place to visit.

Coming from a sub-tropical region, one of things I was excited about was the prospect of getting to see some desert vegetation. The Botanical Gardens was a great place to do just that. They have five acres of land, and many exhibits. I saw all of the local plants I'd ever heard of, and so many other types that I never had. Leave a Comment

Fava Beans by Basaic I had to put this in here for all the "Silence of the Lambs" fans. If you don't get the reference, let me know.

Saint Fiacre by Basaic In addition to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe there is a small statue of Saint Fiacre the patron saint of gardeners.

Bench by Basaic The entire gardens are handicapped accessable and there are benches throughout the park so you can sit and relax or rest as necessary.

Guadalupe Shrine by Basaic There is a shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe on site too. The Legend of Our Lady of Guadalupe dates back to 1531.

Of course no botanical display in Arizona would be complete without some cacti. The Saguaro shows one form of deformity that happens occasionally to this type of cactus.

They also had a nice display of plants used by area Native Americans and other displays about their lifestyle.

The gardens had several ramadas set up showing different plants and types of gardens. I especially liked the Desert Ramada and the Zen Ramada.
