Yuma is located on Interstate 8, making its accessibility from California or points East expedient and convenient.
I arrived to Yuma from Tijuana, Mexico via San Diego - driving just I-8 (Interstate 8 freeway).

Then I drove I-8 to I-10 to Saguro National Park and Tucson, Arizona, then I-19 to Nogales on Mexican border.

Enlarge my map to see where Arizona is. Yuma is located in southwest corner of Arizona (marked by 1 in green square on my map).

To get to Yuma except driving a car you can choose a lot of possibilities:

1. train (Amtrak) by Texas Eagle train:
Orlando, Florida - Los Angeles, California or Chicago, Illinois - Los Angeles, California.

2. Greyhound Intercity bus - connections with major cities in Arizona and California.

OLD TRANSPORTATION (FOR
PRISONERS)

You can see this old transportation mean as on my picture in Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park. It seems that it was used to tranport prisoners outside the prison (to/from other prisons). Hmm... not very comfortable in hot weather especially, no air-condition :-).

You can see this old transpartation mean inside the museum of Yuma Territorial Prison. Who did pull it? Prisoners or animals, which animals? Horses or... cows (males or females)? Rather not camels, I suppose :-).

There are a number of ways to get to Yuma. You can fly into Yuma International Airport (which is served by both America West Airlines out of Phoenix and United Airlines out of LAX).

You can drive to Yuma along I-8 which stretches from San Diego to I-10 South of Phoenix.

Many people spend the winter months here because of the warm weather and drive down in their RV's. Have wheels will travel!!!

While planning your trip to Yuma, always keep in mind that you may survive 40 days without food, but here in Yuma, you will not survive without WATER. During the Springtime, and Summer months, temps can rise from 65 degrees in the morning to well over 100 degrees in the late afternoon. It is essential that you carry pleanty of water with you when traveling in and around Yuma. No one ever intends on having an accident, thus the reason they are called accidents, but you don't ever want to get caught without water. Please carry enough water for your vehicle and for drinking purposes to accomodate those that are with you. I always carry enough water to take care of my personal needs and the needs of some that may not know to carry water with them.
