Altus is a small old town that has long been a stop between Little Rock and Fort Smith, both by highway and the old railroads. The population in 2010 was under 1000. The soil in the area is well suited to growing grapes and there are several wineries in the area. Altus has an interesting history that you can learn about at the Altus Heritage House Museum. I liked this museum and the people running it.
