Hamburg is a town of about 3000 located in the Southeastern corner of the state. Hamburg is the county seat of Ashley County. Ashley County was formed in 1848 and is named for Chester Ashley a lawyer and U.S. Senator from Arkansas. The county courthouse is fairly new and not that interesting historicaly or architecturaly. It is located on the site of the first courthouse for the county, built in 1849. Ashley County is a dry county, meaning the sale of alcohol is prohibited.
