The River Market District is mainly located along President Clinton Avenue and extends from the convention center to I-30. Along it you find several art galleries that sell ceramics, woodwork, paintings, and many other things of that nature. There is also an outdoor market area near the river where vendors bring jewelry, clothing, sunglasses, pottery, etc. to sell. My friend took me to this shop awhile ago and we just went back last month. It's got a lot of great gift items at reasonable prices and the best part is it is a shop supporting free trade with other countries. All of the items are marked with what country they came from. This is what their website says about the store:
'Ten Thousand Villages is part of a worldwide movement striving to practice fair trade. We are one of over 300 IFAT members in 70 countries. IFAT members agree that fair trade is an alternative approach to conventional international trade. It is a trading partnership aimed at sustainable development for excluded and disadvantaged producers. I also like the fact that there is a nice variety and some things were similar from the last time I was there, but I think many things are always changing, so there is always something new to look at. There are various locations - 2 in Texas, but none close to where I live in Dallas, so the Little Rock location is the only one I have been to. Check their website for other locations!
There is a lot of cute jewelry, all sorts of gift items, some food items, etc.
Prices are very reasonable. I got a very cute bangle bracelet for $4.
