Fishing was poor this week. My son was the only one to catch a big one.
Me and my daughter wanted to go for a hike so we left to go on the campground trail but we were disappointed when it took us only five minutes to walk the trail.
Blackburns has inexpensive boat rentals. Once again, I would have to say that their belief is you get what you paid for. We were disappointed to see that the party barge we rented was not as nice as the ad stated it to be and infact the radio and tape deck did not work, there was not a dry well, and you could not take the boat out after dark even though the boat had lights. We were looking forward to night fishing.
Take a short drive from Mountain Home to canoe the Buffalo River. There are a couple of different companies, but this one has been around for quite some time and has a good reputation. We floated from Maumee to Dillards Ferry. The cost for the canoe rental was $40 and they do no charge to transport you to the drop off site.
They have a small store on site for food & drinks.
We rented our pontoon at Buzzard Roost Harbor. This was the least inexpensive place for boat rentals and the boats were really nice and new looking. The staff at the marina were very nice and helpful. I will definately rent there again.
Unless you come to Mountain Home for business or to visit family, the only reason to visit this area is to enjoy the outdoors. If you like fishing, boating, or water-skiing, Lake Norfork and Bull Shoals Lake are popular vacation spots. Houseboating, water-skiing, and fishing bass, trout, and other fish are favorite pastimes. You can bring your own boat, or rent one from numerous boat docks. The nearby White River is renowned for trout fishing and fly fishing. If you're coming in for a short vacation, hire a fishing guide to take you to the 'best' fishing spot - inquire at any boat dock and many of the 'resorts' for a good guide. Spring is beautiful with dogwoods and other flowering trees; Summer is hot and lush; and Autumn can be brillant. Camping is common, with many campgrounds situated near our lakes and rivers. Hunting is quite popular here, with whitetail deer and wild turkey being the most popular game. But who knows - maybe you can catch one of those famed Razorbacks?! However you enjoy nature, bring the family and enjoy the simple pleasures the surrounding area has to offer!
You have to admire the beauty of this area. Many opportunites to snap that perfect shot or inspire a painting or drawing.
