    Denny's: Great Breakfast

by Basaic Updated Dec 10, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Since the breakfast at the Days Inn was way inadequate, when I drove up US Highway 395 to the north I decided to stop and have a proper breakfast. Breakfast is one of the things I think Denny's does very well and this time was no exception. Service was adequate, the food very good.

    La Botana: Decent Mexican Food

by Basaic Written Dec 10, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I saw a few places to eat that looked closed and drove toward the old center of town. In a small stripmall I saw a sign for a little Mexican restaurant called "La Botana". It did not look that impressive outside or inside. The building had definitely seen better days. Many of the signs in nearby stores were in Spanish. The waitress was friendly enough; but appeared to have a limited command of English (better than my Spanish, though). I ordered an Enchilada Platter which was delivered fairly promptly. It was slightly above average and the cost was fairly low. One point in their favor; realizing that my command of Spanish was limited, they changed the channel on the TV from a Spanish channel to a station broadcasting the news in English.

Favorite Dish: The Enchilada Platter was above average.

    Water Smart Cactus Gardens

by Yaqui Written May 2, 2010

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Located in front of the Adelanto's City Hall is a wonderful cactus garden. The city decided it was important to conserve water by replacing the 20,000 square feet of grassy areas with a lovely rock & cactus gardens with Firecracker Pestemon, Red Yucca, Golden Barrel Cactus, French Lavender, Blue Fescue, and Ground Morning Glory. It save them 96,000 gallons of water every month.

    Located from there web site:
    Did you know.....
    • 96,000 gal per month in water was being used in
    irrigation before the conversion
    • The amount of water saved is almost equal to 48
    households per month
    • The plastic benches are made from recycled milk
    cartons
    • Rubber mulch is used in flower beds and is made
    from recycled tires
    • Glass mulch is used and is made from recycled
glass ( Color - Caribbean Mix)
    • All plants used are drought tolerant plants and are
    AWAC recommended
    • Drip lines and bubblers were used in place of sprinklers,
saving thousands of gallons of water
    • Three different artificial turfs are onsite (Classic,
    Choice and Emerald)
    • 3/4 inch rock is used in most of the garden
    (Color - Sunset Gold)
    • Pebble rock was also used in mounds and flower
beds (Colors - California Gold and Apache Brown)
    • River rock and boulders were also used for contrast
(Colors - Gray and Brownish tones)
    • Curbing shaped like flowers were placed to show
variety and the many different shapes and designs
that can make your landscape a custom work of art.
