I came here with some good friends and their kids for a picnic, a short hike, and to climb the rocks. It is a great location for all of this and we had a good time. This is also a nice place to take some photos.

Vasquez Rocks

Vasquez Rocks were formed around 25 million years ago when the continental plates collided forcing some rocks up and others down. These formations were then carved by wind, rain, and other weather throughout the years to their current form. The first recorded inhabitants in the area were Shoshone and Tataviam Indians. Later came the homesteaders. In the 1870s the Mexican Bandit Tiburcio Vasquez used these rocks and the surrounding area as a hideout. The interesting rock formations have long been a favorite of Hollywood and have been used for numerous movies and TV Shows (like the "Star Trek"; "The Flintstones"; "NCIS"; "CSI"; "Broken Arrow" and many more).

Park Hours are 9 AM to 5 PM.

What is wonderful about small communities is they are usually very close knit. The Walk of Fame is dedicated to outstanding citizens who have volunteered countless of time or money to their community.

Since Vasquez rocks has such natural formations, it is a favorite of experienced and novice climbers. Hiking on the natural formations you can almost imagine being part of movie history. Such movies as Bonanza, Star Trek, F-Troop, The Big Valley, Broken Arrow, The Cisco Kid, The High Chaparral, Kung Fu, Maverick", The Wild, Wild West, Flintstones, and the list goes on have been filmed here. So if you can imagine while exploring this area, you might be climbing or standing on the very spot a film crew stood to produce a movie.

There are lots of wonderful trails in and around the rocks. Plenty of rock formation to climb on, but be careful. Many of the rocks are 150 feet high, so watch your little ones. The rangers give tours, but you need to check with the park office for any changes.
